You could simply hide all their status updates by clicking the icon top right of a status update and choosing the option 'hide all status updates'. They won't know, and you won't have to watch all those baby pictures anymore...

I've thought about doing that. I'll definitely do that for my Sister's update, but I have two fiends who post a lot of hilarious stuff half the time, baby pictures the other half.

I love pictures like "Here's my six year old dropping in on a vert ramp for the first time" but "here's a baby. here's the baby again. and again, and again".

And I get it, my Sister has a lot more money than I do, but does she really need to rent a club house for a one year old's birthday? Seems a bit much for something the baby won't remember, but I doubt the party is actually for the baby if you pick up what I'm putting down.

Maybe my panties are just in a ruffle. Do people usually go all out for a First year birthday? Do regular people rent a club house and invite everyone from family to co-workers?

You would be surprised what people do for their kids birthdays. We didn't do anything except invite nearby family/friends for the first 3 birthdays. When the kids started pre-school, we had them choose their friends. In all cases, it was birthday/cake/games/activities at our house. Low key.

A lot of parents just go to some place to have their party. In town, we have a bowladrome with candlepin bowling, cardboard pizza, and arcade that spits out tickets for cheap crappy prizes. The kids are generally most interested in the cheap crappy prizes. So I roll my eyes whenever they get an invite for the bowladrome.

Now that my kids are older, their parties tend to be mostly sleepovers.

Never did much for my birthdays, and I've never understood these huge parties people have for five year olds and 16 year old girls and such. I understand that a Quinceanera is a cultural thing, so its a bit different. But, a white girl whose dad makes 6 figures and bitches when she gets the car for FREE because its the wrong color.... or wrong car...

I just get pissed over some of this stuff. When you grow up getting a group of presents not over $200 in total while other people bitch when they are getting a brand new PS2 and Gamecube along with a ton of dvd's, games, and more....

Parents throwing a big party for a one-year-old are just looking for an excuse to throw a party and get out of the house. After you have been cooped up for a year taking care of an infant, however, anything will do...When my daughter turned one, we had a small dinner party. She got a cupcake (and unadulterated sugar!) for the first time, and we got three bottles of wine. It was a very nice evening.

My son celebrates his first birthday next month, and his birthday is only four days before mine. I am envisioning a joint birthday party where he gets a cupcake and I get a keg...

When I have kids, I'm all fine with Chuck E Cheese-esque parties. I think my fate as a gamer was decided as a kid when I preferred playing Ghosts n' Goblins over trying to win a snap bracelet by playing ski-ball. And TRON. I loved Tron.

But those parties are fun for the kids and I can understand splurging (not that Chuck E Cheese is really splurging) for kids who get more than excited about animatronics, awful pizza, cheap prizes, and unlimited soda.

But reserving a country club club house for a 1 year old? Doesn't make any common sense to me seeing my Sister's house is over 5k sq. ft. I can't justify driving over ten hours to say "hi" and "bye". Plus, what do you get for the baby who already has everything? Seriously, I bought the lil bit a baby jacuzzi already.

This is why you will likely be a great parent. Also, is the pizza a Chuck E. Cheese that awful? I have not been there since I was a small child, and I remember it fondly. (My tastes have likely changed a bit since then.)

To put this into perspective, my Sister has two nannies, a cook, a cleaning crew, and yard service.

She doesn't lift a finger around the house, and she certainly isn't cooped up.
