The Mill and the Cross

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, I say a film about one is worth a million. Beautifully shot, sparsely narrated, this masterpiece is a must-watch for true fans of the medium, as the chilling historical context makes it even more sublime. Not one for ADHD plebs

HARLAN COUNTY, USA

"Sitting was and only should be the beginning of a protest. Then, we march".

Not sure who said that, or it could be very true that I just mashed two quotes together. Either way, HARLAN COUNTY shows true protest, with cause, with force, with emotion.

This isn't college kids protesting shit they have no clue about; this is a real protest with meaning, compassion, and bloodshed. This is fighting for survival for your family, not fighting against the "1%". Anyone who has ever wanted to fight for anything should see this documentary.

Yes the film is dated, but the concepts and obstacles that still remain are not. And not that all surprisingly, it's the wives of the workers who stand up for their rights and wages. Ever pissed off, and knowing they will get the shaft, the men still go to work to support their families. But thre is also a lot more to the doc than that.

This is a real life GUNG-HO "we'll kill your union" movie. This isn't some moore "make money off exploiting people" movie either. It allows you to form your own opinion without a narrative of "think like I want you to".

Put HARLAN COUNTY on your queue. It's something else.

Saw this on IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1160419/ and it made me start casting a new DUNE. Here's what my friend and I came up with:

Paul Atreides (Christian Bale), Gurney (Liam Neeson), Duke Harkonnen (Brian Cox), Harkonnen Henchman (whatever the name of Sting's char is) (Timothy Olyphant).

What do you think???

Seeing every new person added to Machete Kills is interesting. Lady Gaga was definitely a suprise to me. Alexa Vega? Honestly didn't recognize her from Spy Kids.

And, the fact Sheen is playing the president cracks me up. Honestly doesn't seem too far fetched seeing most of the idiots who have ran ever since I was old enough to understand the concept...

Lucas is honestly the last person I'd expect to show restraint about milking a franchise.

oh look, trailer for the Silent Hill movie sequel. I kinda thought it'd been cancelled honestly.

...I have an incredible amount of indifference from the trailer, but I'll probably end up watching it when it comes out anyway. First one was easily one of the better video game movies I've seen, not that that says much.
