Arcade beat-em-ups
Arcade beat-em-ups
The only kind of game I can get my girlfriend to play with me is beatemups, and since she is no good we have to play arcade beatemups only so that we have unlimited continues. We have played through the arcade standard like final fight and TMNT, but now I want to expand a bit. Anyone have any recommendations?

What are your options?(consoles I mean). Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks is great fun and not too hard(PS2). It's a great, overlooked game. If you download Golden Axe on the 360 it's actually one of the easier beat'em ups out there(technically, it's a hack n slash but whatever). If you've got an S-NES or an emulator, TMNT:Turtles in Time blows away the original TMNT in every way and is not a tough game(it's actually easier than the arcade version).
Streets of Rage 2 doesn't really too hard until you're close to the end of the game(on normal difficulty), but by then you'd would have lots of extra lives built up anyway. You can get that off of Xbox Live Arcade
Just a few suggestions
I say test them on MAME to find the right feel, look and difficulty level. Then track down the ports on the consoles you have, do a little research to make sure they translated. To define the best arcade ports can be tricky and often people opinions are based on nostalgia. Here's a link with some great lesser known Capcom Stuff. In general this site does good comparisons between arcade and home ports.

Aliens Vs. Predator, the arcade game. And yes, stick with the arcade, as the console versions limit you a bit. Also, the Double Dragon games were fun, and there's always the console crossover Battletoads & Double Dragon.
Yes. I love the trio of AvP, The Punisher, and Captain Commando.

Dang strait....they are all on the link I posted. With home to arcade comparisons on Punisher and Captian Commando. Personally...the only way to play most beat 'em ups is arcade syle on mame....unless it's Final Fight Cd, that rocks!
Also I kinda like the old Ninja Gaiden Arcade game, but it get hard really fast!

Truer words were never spoken. I tried to resist MAME for many years, due to my own beliefs concerning music piracy, but it is too good to pass up.
I loved showing Final Fight CD to my unfortunate Nintendo fan friends.
Me: "Streets of Rage kicks Final Fight's ass."
Them: "No way man, Final Fight is awesome and that's why SNES is better."
Me: "Oh, looky here...Final Fight CD on a SEGA system. No missing level, and it is TWO PLAYER."
Them: "I have been crushed. I admit now that Sega is everything and Nintendo is nothing."
