wow, I have A LOT of catching up to do.
OK, ignoring dunpeal's scores and started playing tonight.

I've hit 25M so far. Survival-wise, this game feels so tame after coming off of DDP Res, but the scoring is tricky. Definitely fun though. I'm sure I can get my score up much higher soon which is why I'm not upping a screenshot yet.
I hit 43mil once, but other 4 runs were in the 29-37 range.

As always, I didn't read up on this at all - want to learn by feel.

Now i've read Chaz's pointers on the gems, and feel like that is going to help.

The bosses seem managaeble.

I'm dying 3 times on stage 3 right now. As always, I never bomb :/

The rank on stage 3 is tough to overcome right now, but i'm starting to figure out which enemies will clear the screen. Stage 2 is the icicles (obviously) and stage 3 is the Ants.

And to be clear, we are all playing the same thing:
Mushi Futari
Ver. 1.5 (not arrange or BL)
Arcade Mode (not 360)
Normal Play (not scoring/training)
Original Mode (not maniac)

Arcade and 360 are only different in looks. For anyone playing on an HDTV, don't torture yourself. Play 360 mode.

I actually think the re-worked graphics in Futari, Esp 2, and DFK are better than the original.

There shouldn't be anything wrong with 360 mode. It's arcade mode with high res sprites. Don't believe it is anything more. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

There is also a table for BL.

Ahh, my mistake - I figured there may be a scoring or other diff. in 360 mode. If it is simply graphics, then, by all means...

Yeah, I thought that at first too. The 360 modes in Deathsmiles and Espgaluda 2 are the same, although with Galuda they removed a tutorial bug that let you start with a small amount of gems.

In Ressurection, the HD sprites are mandatory. They did not include an arcade mode. Pork n Sweets on the other hand, had no re-worked sprites, so only arcade mode is available.

oh snaps, I guess I should play 360 mode then. :D

Like Mike, I'm pretty much always dying at the stage 3 boss. Stage 1 is no problem. I might lose a life on stage 2 if I'm careless.

To me the hardest thing is paying attention to the color of the chain ... y'know how you need to see if the numbers in the top left are green or blue and then shoot accordingly? I tend to die more because I'm looking up at the numbers instead of my hitbox!

I thought this was the PS2 game at first.
The original Mushihimesama is coming to the 360 very soon! So we can definitely do a thread for that with arcade/PS2/360. I haven't put much time into the original. I haven't put much time into Futari either but certainly at least 3 hours more than the original.
Did this ever come out, Zen?

MAME is fine, i'm sure.

So for scoring...collecting bigger gems is better of course, but the real trick that I can see is simply survival (extended survival). So basically not bombing and not dying.

When you bomb, your multiplier drops by about 1/3, when you die, your multiplier drops by about 1/2. This may be more/less depending on high you get it, but in most cases that's what it looked like to me.

On one run, I got to stage 3 midboss, full health and hadn't bombed, was at 40 mil.
On the next run after, I got to stage 4 and was only at 38 mil and I had bombed a lot.

I get the same feeling Mike. You can understand how the scoring works, and use it to your advantage. But ultimately, this feels like a survival = score game. Which I'm OK with.
