ps2 saturn pad membranes worn out
A PS2 Sega Saturn pad I bought a few years ago, now has sticky-feeling worn out membranes, especially in the D-pad area. Would it be possible to swap out the membranes of an old Saturn pad into the PS2 pad?

I think so. Should be identical. And if not you can also swap the inner chipboard of the ps2 saturn pad into a regular Saturn pad. Better ask at Shoryuken to be sure though.

Are you talking about the outer surface? I had a couple of controllers that were like that, dust mixed with what felt like dried up soda or the scum of a deep fryer coating the entire controller. It was weird almost as if the plastic and rubber were breaking down, some real ugly sticky stuff. I used Lift Off 2 and after a lot of scrubbing managed to get that slime off. Turned out the button rubber and plastic housing were not deteriorated, just a strange buildup of very sticky scum. This from a controller I had not used in years laying in the table shelf. The controller on the right after the cleaning.HungryGarou wrote:A PS2 Sega Saturn pad I bought a few years ago, now has sticky-feeling worn out membranes, especially in the D-pad area.

Unless you've actually managed to tear the domes, cleaning them, the buttons/Dpad , and the board will probably take care of it.

I've had that happen to a controller. The rubbery plastic was all kinda gross feeling when I picked it up one day. I tried isporopyl alcohol to clean it off, but all it did was make it worse, or at least the problem was too deep for me to clean the entire thing. I ended up throwing the controller away. Hope the swap works for you.

Aside from one torn membrane, I've never had a dirty old controller I couldn't get working.

I opened up the pad, and two of the four domes on the dpad membrane are halfway torn off, causing that sticky felling when left and up are pressed. After some Google searching, I stumbled on a Sega-16 thread were someone mentioned you can swap the actual dpad and membranes with any official saturn pad. ...now i just need to find a cheap official saturn pad online that isn't twenty dollars..

You can get a usb Saturn pad for $10 or less. The dpad, buttons and membranes are almost 100% identical.HungryGarou wrote:I opened up the pad, and two of the four domes on the dpad membrane are halfway torn off, causing that sticky felling when left and up are pressed. But everyone keeps saying the new 'knockoff' ones suck. I imagine this is because the membranes suck.SaturnHST wrote:You can get a usb Saturn pad for $10 or less. The dpad, buttons and membranes are almost 100% identical.

Yup. Even in my SLS "Official" pad they were a bit mushy and rubbery. Put in official membranes and works fantastic now.Hobie-wan wrote:But everyone keeps saying the new 'knockoff' ones suck.
