Personally, I got to the movies to be entertained, not to relax. If I go to an action movie, I expect to be excited. If I see a horror, I expect it to be intense and to make me a little jumpy.

If I want to relax I'll read a book or turn off all the electronics in my room and sit down with a pair of headphones and listen to music.

Again, I think I see the point, it's just that it needed to be delivered in a more sensitive manner. I didn't get the feeling he was mocking anyone who was in the theatre.
I am glad that someone else understands what I was trying for. I was commenting on the concept of "scenes of intense violence" being "relaxing". If that relaxes someone, I am not sure I want to know that they are needing to relax from. For relaxation, I would figure that most people, if going to a movie, would go for a comedy or maybe a romance.

I meant no offense to anyone, I was strictly looking at the concept as an oxymoron.
I think you are taking words too literally. By saying a relaxing place, they just mean it is a leisure activity. Sitting down and watching a movie is relaxing, it isnt interactive. I am fairly relaxed watching a movie even if there is violence. It is only PG-13...

I saw an 8 year old at a Deep Purple concert once. Poor kid was really starting to doze off near the end. My guess is parents want to see the movie and it's really hard to find a sitter for so late at night. And I'm sure the kid is a fan of Batman anyway.

IMHO anyone that would take their 6 year old to watch a PG-13 rated movie at a midnight showing is a terrible parent. If the kid is a Batman fan the rent him a copy of the animated series or something. You don't show them a movie like this to begin with, let alone keep them up all night. Yes, I'm sure the parents wanted to see the movie, I want to see it. Guess what? I don't need to see it the minute after it comes out. There was reports of at least two infants(under 6 months old) and another of a 4 year old in the theater. I don't understand what is wrong with people. It might seem like a moot point with the tragedy that happened, but as a parent your kids should be the number one priority, not being the first person on the block to see a movie, any movie.

Terrible? A terrible parent is one who doesn't provide proper nutrition or smokes around them (or is an alcoholic) etc.
Parents showing bad judgement in taking little kids to a Batman movie? Hmmm, not a good idea, but there are far worse things that would make them a terrible parent (though I wouldn't take my kids to midnight screening unless they were in high school).

I'm sorry, I don't see what it has to do with the issue at hand. Going LOL HOW CAN THEY RELAX IT'S AN ACTION MOVIE is just... dumb, honestly.

Fuck that. Any parent that would decide if a movie is appropriate for their kid or not based solely on the kid's age, the time of day, and/or the movie's rating is a terrible parent. Anyone who would make that judgement about some other family that they don't know is just an asshole.

Also:

A) Plenty of kids see PG-13 films when they are 2 or younger, 9 or younger, 12 or younger, etc. (FTW: I saw Temple of Doom when it first hit VHS when I was 6!) I'd considered taking my 3 year old to TDKR, especially since I know he liked Begins when we watched it last week. I didn't take him becasue a friend was interested in sitting him anyway, but that doesn't change the fact that he'd have probably enjoyed the film. I'm not suggesting all 3 year olds would be fine, and all kids go through multiple phases where they are better/worse equipped to deal with what they are processing, but you have to know your own kid - and not make blanket assumptions about others.

B) Kids that are VERY young (less than a year or so) aren't capable of processing what they're watching anyway, so giving a parent shit for taking a three-month old to any movie is really uncalled for. As long as they remove a kid (of ANY age) if they start crying/being distracting, then I have no issue with them bringing their kids there. I do have a lot of contempt for everyone who is giving these particular parents in Colorado a hard time...

I don't know if it constitutes negligence bringing a child as young as six to a midnight screening of TDKR, but prioritizing attending a movie premier over common sense parenting is fucked up.

Fun fact: I once went to an 11pm-1am showing of From Dusk 'Til Dawn at a second run theater, and some ghetto trash brought two children, guessing aged six and eight. Their quiet sobs really enhanced the last third of that film.

What if the kid wanted to see it? I never got to go to one till I was 13 or so, only becasue they really didn't have midnigt releases for many movies up until recently.

Anyways, its not for any of us to criticize their parenting, expecially so soon after something as horrific as this has happened to them.

I love the judgments people are making on what they think is appropriate parental decisions for kids or people they have never met

It's a film. A movie that will exist in perpetuity. Is it unfathomable to think that exposing a child to a violent and artificial experience specifically designed to push audible and visual stimuli cannot wait until their age nears double digits at least?

You didn't read the rest of my post. That was the main point I was after.
