I sort of hate McNulty as a person, yet I always laugh as the stuff he says or does, or the jokes others make at his expense. I don't like the guy, and yet I find him entertaining. I don't mind Omar's killing of people, as it seems to me like anyone he takes out was not a person who had clean hands and a clear conscious. It's "the game" and everyone who plays it knows that you forfeit your life if you can't play it well. Dems the rules. That concept of the game is very significant in my eyes. Omar never kills anyone who is not part of "the game."Nemoide wrote:
One of my favorite aspects is how the characters are more complex than most TV characters. Like how McNulty is serious about doing good police work and is a really likable character, but he's also a complete fuckup in his personal life. Or how Omar seems like a good man in many ways, despite the fact that he's killed dozens of people.

Re: The Wire
Agree with this. I can't watch any US series when they come out, I wait for the DVD box set and watch the episodes in chunks. The Wire probably benefits from this, and I have introduced at least 5 people to The Wire by lending them the boxset. Telling them to watch it on TV, they would probably not bother as the pilot isn't the greatest.Gamerforlife wrote:I couldn't imagine having to watch The Wire on a one episode per week basis. There's so much going again, I feel like being away from the show for seven days would make me forget something important. I pretty much always watch The Wire in two to three episode viewing sessions.

Cliche, but this show does go downhill from the first season on and the last season is a total joke. Just remember that when at a certain moment you feel like the show gets slow, it gets worst from there on and there are no real big surprises.
Why it went downhill for me was that after the first season the focus shifted also towards schools, politics and newspaper. Although the school bits were very touching I really hate the politics part. Although very informative how politics definitely work in lots places all over the world it just isn´t as exciting as pure police and criminal action. And I could have handled a little bit politics here and there, there was the whole major campaign which bored me to death (Bored to Death, another great show) + politics in the police department.
As for the final season. Wow, I see I am alone in the statement that it was a total joke.
To invent a serial killer...., I mean I like McNulty´s creativity and perseverance, but it was too unreal. Something like that would never happen. Who in his right mind......
Still a great show and I really don´t want to put it down except for the last season.
Best show ever? Perhaps at the time it aired.

"Where's the body?"
"Why? You calling the SPCA or some shit?"

Re: The Wire
Just finished season 3, I'm not really sure where the show goes from here. I feel like a major chapter of this book has just been closed. It felt like a series finale. I'm sure whatever season 4 brings should be great though.
