Computers always work fine until those dang games with their viruses get installed.

I have that second disc somewhere but can't find it at the moment. All you do is ask someone if you can borrow the second disc that contain the DLC and throw it all on to your hard drive. Save some money if you can.

I didn't know I could do that. If someone has this second disc, I would be MOST appreciative if I could borrow it.

It just occurred to me that the PS3 Fallout 3 GotY is on one disc (given its blu-ray format) instead of two discs like the 360 and PC versions. Can I still just install the DLC off of the GotY disc and keep playing with the regular version disc, or will I need to go ahead and buy the GotY edition?

I honestly didn't even check to see what version you were speaking of. I was defaulting to the Xbox version. For the PS3 I haven't a clue.

Fallout 3 and New Vegas are both glitchy as hell on PC. For awhile, I was crashing every time after about 45 seconds of play. I did a few things to trick it into thinking I have a less powerful computer than I do and it helped stabilize it, but it still crashes every hour or so. Skyrim works much better.

I had next to no problems with either of them on PC. Or Skyrim. Oblivion was terrible for me on my old Opteron system. Really terrible. Like, quicksave before opening doors because the game might hard lock the machine when they're opened terrible. No problems on my Core2Duo or i7 machines though.

I've had it NV completely lock up my system 2 or 3 times when loading new areas. I've had no problem running the rest of the game smoothly, but Vault 34 (I think it was) turned into a slide show from time to time.

I should be more specific. The Fallout 3 crashes are mostly related to the game having troubles with quad core CPUs.

You'll see this everywhere as a solution for the problem:

"Open up the fallout.ini file in: My Documents\My Games\Fallout3
Find the line:
bUseThreadedAI=0
change it to:
bUseThreadedAI=1
Add another line after it and insert:
iNumHWThreads=2
This will limit the game to 2 cores and prevent the engine bug from causing the game to freeze. "

You also often have to download some .dll file as well and fix this in two places. Afterwards the game runs a bit more smoothly.

So...does anyone know if I can just borrow someone's GotY disc and install the DLC and go back to using my regular disc instead of buying the GotY disc?

I don't think you can do that, no. The GOTY version integrates the DLC into the game itself so I'm almost positive the saves aren't backwards compatible.

And anyway, why would you want to play the original version? The GOTY version also includes patches and fixes for some of the original game's fatal programming bugs.
