Getting pissed these days for being a retro gamer

Post by mas »

Hi Everyone,
I went to the flea market on sunday and missed out again on a great deal for the cube. Zelda, mario resident evil, wtf!!. I have been on ebay lately and the nintendo based games zelda's and mario's are all going up and it makes me upset a little because I can't get a decent title without paying an arm and a leg for games these days.
I wanted to mentioned this. The guy who bought all the gamecube games a few minutes before I did had his phone and was scanning the games to find out how much profit he's going to make and it sucks because I want to play these games not sell them. It goes like that for everything now. Anything that say's nintendo or was on nintendo has gone way up. Gamecube and snes the most. I'm really hating being a retro gamer right now. I go to thrift stores and the only two that are in my area either vendor's wait or there are employees who get the game first. My friend works at one and says employees just grab and go.
I almost want to give it up all together. I'm sure there are many other people here who feel the same way as I do. I never find anything for dreamcast, psone is a hit and miss and the gamecube...... Forget that it's going to cost me 30 or so dollars and up for a good game. Ps2 i guess is going to be my only option. I also hate the fact that gamestop has disc only for great gc and ps2 games.
I'm sorry but I had to get this off of my chest. It really bothers me now that I want to play great games and people find titles and buy the game for 5.00 and sells it for 40.00

Emulation is always a choice if your only concern is to play these great classic titles.

It does indeed suck that many people are only concerned with finding games to make a profit... but its hard to blame them when the games do sell for those prices. I mean, if I found a MUSHA for $5, I would buy it knowing that I would not keep it for more than a week. I would sell that sucker for cash and buy a game that has been jacked up in price that I actually want

At least with stuff like Mario, Zelda, etc, there are so many copies that finding one on the cheap WILL happen. Just be thankful you don't buy arcade games, where the price is entirely set by the few folks in japan that can buy the games at shops locally.

If there ever is a game you really want that is a bit more scarce, just remeber that even if its price has shot through the roof, if you buy it and don't like it, you can usually re-sell it for what you bought it for.

If you keep it forever... than it was probably worth the $40.

The people that will pay the inflated prices are as much to blame as the people scooping them up just to resell them. Start collecting popular shmups for the Saturn and get back to us on ridiculous prices.

Heh, start collecting PCBs and get back to us on pricey. I'd gladly pay $150 for a quality shmup on the cab, which I once thought was the absolute most I could ever pay for a game.

Wow I just saw a page of saturn titles. I should of kept that system years ago.
It just sucks that these games are soo much money now. I own a modded xbox so I'm all set with cartridge base games. But I was hoping that it wouldn't be that hard to find decent gamecube games at a decent price.

honestly, if you are okay with emulation, just grab a Wii and mod it. Then you can play copied GC games and not get gouged by re-sellers. Its not like you are supporting Nintendo by paying $40 for a 2nd-hand copy of a game.

You can rip and play Saturn and DC games pretty easily too, which is what I do. But only because I had to sell off my console stuff to afford my new addiction.

I know the feeling. My interests went from loose N64 games to CIB Super Nintendo games. Not exactly a small leap. haha

Hell, its suprising how big of a leap there has been in N64 since I bought mine. Around that time, $30 could get you a N64 and about 5 games or so. Now? They try to get eBay dealer prices on each game, along with $40 bucks for the N64. Dafuq?

Most people who check a list are retrogamers, not speculators. I don't check trift stores much anymore but I used to have a list to check prices and I have missed some good deals for not remembering how much a game ran for.
Anything that say's nintendo or was on nintendo has gone way up. Gamecube and snes the most.
Everything Nintendo was always more expensive and the Super Nintendo is the most collected console in the hobby. The growth of retrogaming and gaming as a whole has led to more people wanting old games and Nintendo platforms are always the first referent, beating Sega by a really wide margin.

I completely disagree on Gamecube games going up in value, they must be as low as it will get in the foreseeable future. Not that they were ever expensive, the best games in the system are all very common, with only Fire Emblem being uncommon and sought after.

I don't know. I just remember gamecube games being alot cheaper to get. I remember getting zelda windwaker for 15.00 or so and now it's always 30-40. ikaruga was always rare but even sunshine mario now sells an average of 20.00 and I got that for ten at a used game store"not gamestop"
