One Must Fall 2097
Cyberbots: Full Metal Madness

Yes they're all about giant robots. This is probably not a coincidence.
Some others include Evil Zone, World Heroes series, Saturday Night Slam Masters, Bloody Roar series, Psychic Force 2012, Last Blade...

I'll second that.
I'm a big fan of Waku Waku 7, beat the back out of the PS2 version on the Sunsoft collection.

I loved One Must Fall 2097 for PC. Others that come to mind are Tobal No.1 and World Heroes. I'm sure not many would agree but I had a blast with Time Killers (as a kid). It's god awful now but sure was fun then.

Six pages and no one has mentioned Bushido Blade on PSX?!?!? That game kicks so much ass!
To this day I still haven't completed slash mode where you have to fight 100 dudes in a row without getting injured in order to get that annoying secret character with the gun. I sit down and every once in a while but still get some dude slashing up my legs.
I know it's one of those either you love it or hate it kind of games, but I love how you can mix different characters with different weapons for extra replay value. The lack of a life bar can make the fights a bit easy sometimes once you get a few moves down, but at the same time if you're not careful or block a second too late, your gonna get chopped up. Plus awesome cutscenes with cheesy dialogue. Never really got into BB2 although I have it as well.

The tournament mode with light RPG elements is really cool, and while there's a story mode that's also cool I've always felt the tournament mode was the real meat of the game. Are there any other decent fighters that did something like this?
