Dux for the Dreamcast..man this one is brutal. I can't even pass the first level. X_X And I'm usually able to somewhat hold my own with shmups. Nevertheless, I love this. It's such a gorgeous game.

I don't think I've ever beaten the first level either. It's rough. :\WrathOskvro wrote:Dux for the Dreamcast..man this one is brutal. I can't even pass the first level. X_X And I'm usually able to somewhat hold my own with shmups. Nevertheless, I love this. It's such a gorgeous game.

Picked up Metal Torrent (DSi Ware) on a whim for 5 bucks. Screenshots looked kinda Mars Matrix-y and it's developed by Arika (ex-Capcom) so I figured it was worth a shot.

It's pretty fun. There are actually lots of bullets on screen and swoops and checkmarks are pretty forgiving. It's short but I guess that's to be expected. 8 "phases" are about two minutes each and there are 3 boss battles throughout but it's the same boss every time.
1LC'd the Easy ship on my first credit.
Time to hit the "Insane" ship...

I didn't know Arika was ex-Capcom, cool! They have an arcade shmup too, but it was never ported.
They were also the ones responsible for the most accurate Cave ports, the PS2 ports of Espgaluda and DDP DOJ
I'm playing Sky Shark at the moment. Toaplan is amazing.

Played a few rounds of DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu 1.5 this morning. And decided that I am not ready for it. Going to stick with DeathSmiles and maybe start playing RefRain again to see if I can build up some chops, confidence, etc. Been really thinking about finally opening my copy of Radirgy Noa Massive too. I put a little time in to the Wii version, but the 360 version should be a lot better. I think it has extra modes along with much better graphics.
Re: What shmup are you playing now?
If you asked me back in the 80s what some of my favorite shmups were, I'd definitely tell you Sky Shark. Until I got into MAME and the arcade culture a bit deeper, didn't even know Toaplan developed it. I have the NES release and it really taught me a lot about survival, and I can happily say I can 1cc *that*dunpeal2064 wrote:I'm playing Sky Shark at the moment. Toaplan is amazing.

The NES port is pretty fun. I had no idea what the PCB would be like though, and it is damn crazy! The game is relentless.
I'm nowhere near a 1cc on this one!
