I love Killer 7, it was one of my favourite games of the last generation.

That said, I didn't really enjoy No More Heroes that much as it was pretty shallow and repetitive, and this looks like the same kind of thing, just with a busty cheerleader as the main protagonist instead. I'll probably pick it up cheap sometime and see what I think though.

Okay, I have to say, the game is starting to pick up for me. So this post is going to be more positive than my last one. I just finished the arcade stage, and I will go ahead and say it is one of the best levels I've ever played in a video game ever

Truth

Even the humor was markedly better in this stage. It has geeky, gamer humor and better use of the pop culture references. Brilliant. I really hope that's an indicator of what's to come and it keeps being this fun going forward. Also, the boss for this stage and the one for the level prior to it were pretty good. Unlike Shadows of the Damned, I think this game gets better the farther you get into it.

Also, I finally seem to be unlocking some better moves. They stick you with shit combos and useless moves early on, so you can't really play well. So the combat seems like shit. However, once you purchase those they finally start making some of the good stuff available for purchase in the shop. There are still some issues though. It's hard to target the right enemy sometimes when you've got a group of zombies on you and it irritates the fuck out of me how you have to mash the circle button to get up whenever an enemy knocks you down, but overall I'm starting to dig combat more.

I'm still getting shit rankings though. Maybe you can't get them on your first playthrough when you're not fully upgraded, or I just don't ain't playing right, but this game's ranking system doesn't seem to mess around. You want a good rank you have to earn it. I mean you can ace one category, and then the game gives you Cs and Ds in the other categories leaving you with a low rank overall.

I don't know if I'm going to enjoy whatever else the game has in store for me, but that arcade stage was awesome. Seeing as this is a retro gaming forum, I would say that you all need to play that stage. If I end up hating this game when I'm done with it, I will still fondly remember that stage. Also, I've already said this before in this thread, but it bears mentioning again. The soundtrack fucking rocks! Children of Bodom?! Yes, please.

Lastly, watching a guy's decapitated head be attached to a zombie body and have to dance while Juliette does a cheer is pretty damn funny.

Well, I haven't finished it yet, but I think I've played enough of LC to give it a thumbs up. I had some complaints in a previous post and I wouldn't say the game is without its flaws, but the game has definitely won me over by this point. I feel a much stronger urge to finish it than I did Shadows of the Damned, and I'm already thinking of replaying stages for higher ranks after I do. I'd rate it a solid 8. I like that it has stuff like a ranking system and a level select that SoTD didn't have, and I much prefer its visual and aural aesthetics to SoTD as well. This feels like a straight up arcade game, but with some of the conventions we expect from a console game and I really like that. It's a little like God Hand, but without the awkward controls and ball busting difficulty. I much prefer this game to God Hand. It's has all the fun and silliness of that game, but isn't trying to anal rape you every second.

I feel a musical kinship with this game as I keep recognizing the music being used in it. In one stage I immediately recognized the song being used as an Arch Enemy song. The way the game goes from pop one moment to metal the next is a bit odd. I think it basically comes down to this. The poppy parts kind of characterize the ever optimistic and upbeat Juliette while the hard rock and metal characterize the apocalyptic state of the world she's in and the crazy enemies she fights (including a viking metal zombie boss and a trippy hippy bitch who tries to kill you with bubbles). That's kind of cool. Oh, and speaking of bosses, I quite like this game's boss fights. You get a good sense of what you're supposed to do and attacks are generally telegraphed well. The boss characters are pretty crazy too. In fact, I really dig the characters now. Juliette's family is pretty crazy.

I finally am getting some better ranks too, replayed stage 1 for an A rank (and a high score achievement) and got a B+ in stage 5. I would have done even better for that stage if I didn't die twice (you lose points for that) and had finished the stage faster (D+ in completion time)

For those of you who don't care about spoilers, here's the awesome arcade stage. LOL at the 9:55 mark. I never get tired of seeing that :D

My one nitpick with this player, supposed to use the door at 13.57 to go behind the guy. That's how you avoid being shot. Dumbass

and here's the boss fight

Dead thread :(

You guys on the fence should rent this. I gave it an 8/10 in the games beaten thread, but I'm discovering more and more cool little nuances to the gameplay and picking up on more jokes as I play through it again and I'm starting to feel like this one is a 9 in my book. Plus, the cool extra stuff like extra enemies and collectibles that pop up in hard mode, or the hidden bonus challenges in ranking mode that give you extra medals. There's plenty to do in this game if you're a perfectionist. I just A ranked stage 3 (normal difficulty) and got a high score trophy. Once you learn the various cool and fun ways to do sparkle hunting effectively, the game becomes IMMENSE fun and you get higher ranks and tons of spending money.

I'm starting to finally appreciate the usefulness of Nick's abilities (which I ignored in my first playthrough) for tougher fights and higher difficulties, and the totally badass square, square, square, square, triangle, triangle combo. It slices through crowds and gives you tons of sparkle hunting kills. If you loved Dynamite Cop, Zombie Revenge, or Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage on the Dreamcast you have to check out this awesome, old school, arcade style, beat'em up. I officially love this game :D

yeah it's one of my most anticipated games of the year. I've just been too busy -- with other games and with real life stuff -- to pick it up yet. Once I do, it'll be under $40 anyway and that's cool with me.

Woohoo!

I just finished the final stage on hard mode with an A+ rank, got the high score trophy for the stage, got the "Fingered" trophy, AND got the good ending trophy. My current trophy percentage is at 81%

YEAH BITCH!

One cool thing with bosses, there are some attacks you won't see depending on how you go about the fight. I'll just say this. Sometimes it's worth letting an attack hit you. You might see something cool. Also, I've seen new attacks on hard mode from certain bosses. So that's pretty cool. The game does vary things up a bit on hard mode. It doesn't drastically change the overall experience to the point that you're missing anything major if you just play on normal, but I still appreciate the effort.

Also, some zombies don't show up at all on a first play through of a stage, even on normal.

This review is better than 90% of the written, "professional" reviews on metacritic and gamerankings. Really tells you EVERYTHING you need to know about the game better than I can.
