actually no. I have a 380 dollar desktop that barely runs Star Trek online.ZenErik wrote:When I was gaming on the budget HP laptop with AMD Llano last year Skyrim looked and ran MUCH BETTER on the laptop than my PS3. And it is also not just a dedicated console and has a built in screen and is portable, unlike the PS3. Only cost a few hundred more than a PS3 costs. I bet some $350 laptops on with the latest generation of hardware can often output equal if not better graphics than a PS3 or Xbox 360.brandman wrote: True, but if you're gonna have a PC to game on, for it to be significantly better than consoles, it's gonna cost you a pretty penny to build/buy.
It's probably pretty easily possible to make a $350 - $400 desktop that outputs much better graphics than a PS3 or Xbox 360..
But whatever. Graphics aren't everything.

Going to wait till this thing is on store shelves or available to order online, but as of now i can see this thing being the ultimate casual gamer console. Not sure why someone like me who has a Gaming quality PC, a PS3 among other consoles would want this thing... i dont even have a Android capable Smartphone and dont really want one.
Re: OUYA: Open Source Console - Kickstarted in 1 Day
I don't agree with the idea that this is for casual gamers. Everyone seems to be caught up in the idea that it will just be for android ports. It runs on android but so what? It's not as powerful as an xbox 720, but so what? When did hardcore gaming get defined as the most graphically powerful? Nobody is calling the sega genesis or the nes or the playstation casual, but this thing could handle any game that showed up on those systems. Who do you think has invested over 4 million dollars into this thing? It certainly isn't a group of moms who play words with friends on their iphone.
All this is not to say that it will be a raging success, or even get manufactured. But if it does, it could be awesome.

Re: OUYA: Open Source Console - Kickstarted in 1 Day
I was one of the first to jump on it, so I'm getting mine for $95.
I'm not even that interested in the games. I'm looking at it at the angle of "Hey, I'm getting the opportunity to develop games for a console, with the hardware + software costing less than a hundred bucks. And I can root it and use it as a home theater system as well."
If you're only in it for the games, I can see why you might be disappointed. But heck, you might find that all these people with the SDK make some really cool games.
Who knows?

Exactly. hardcore gamers are one that should not care just about graphics but gameplay first. Modern "Hardcore" gamers that only care about graphic power are graphics hors, not true gamers.Jrecee wrote:I don't agree with the idea that this is for casual gamers.
