Oddly enough I only seem to get better at games (with the exception of driving/puzzle games) while high.

Playing high, no problem. In fact, I think it gets me to concentrate even better.
This is like when a drunk says "I actually drive better after a couple". The only thing weed makes you more aware of and concentrate on is the back of a five dollar bill (red team GO!).

Serious about this. It might improve the "experience" of the game, but every friend I've ever had who has said "I'm better at x when I'm on y" has been dead wrong. Medicine is a different story, I'm talking on the lines of pot, booze and powder.

Case in point, ever watched a stoned/drunk/hopped up guy try to flirt with a hot and sober girl? I don't think film has even captured that "I've got to handle my boy" feeling. What is even worse is when the girl actually think the guy is cute, but he manages a way to fuck it up.

On topic:

Duck Hunt, always Double Duck mode. Can't believe I forgot to list it.

It may actually be my favorite game where I try to kill as many harmless animals as possible.

My friend Heather (very thoughtful lady) was looking at my collection and with a spike in the tone of her voice asked "You have Duck Hunt?!?", but she has a heavy Eastern NC accent and it sounded more like "You have Dah Cunt?!?".

That is not a joke.

Alcohol completely obliterates my ability to play shmups.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

The sharp increase in my KDR compared to sober play begs to differ.

I mostly attribute it to the lack of anxiety when I start to do well, as many other people seem to experience.

Why would anyone put themselves in such a terrible situation? Playing video games is generally the antithesis of interacting with women anyways.

When I get drunk I just turn into a dumbo. But one of my fondest gaming drunk memories is when my best friend and I at a party got really far in Dead Space 2 one night. Then suddenly, we got to a door... and I forgot how to use Stasis, because I'm pretty sure the button used in the second game was different from the first. So that was game over, we couldn't figure out the button combination until the next day. Epic.

I take it you haven't smoked a lot of weed in your life, have you Luke? It's not like saying "I actually drive better after a couple" at all. Weed does indeed enhance a lot of things, and it's not like you see in so many comedy movies. Unless you're just smoking the finest weed you ever had, or you have zero tolerance for it; you don't go around laughing like an crazed hyena and dumb as a brick. And it's absolutely nothing like being drunk. I've done FAAAARRRRR more stupid crap while drunk. You leave all you faculties behind while getting plastered.

I've smoked enough weed and played enough video games to speak this from experience. You really do concentrate better on gaming while high, and even have a better feel for patterns and rhythms in games that are so prevalent in so many of them.

Not only that, weed makes you more creative and lets your mind wander in directions it doesn't normally. There's loads of music, movies, and books out there that have been created under the influence of weed which supports this one. And without a doubt, my cousin can SHRED the guitar while high.

As for hitting on girls, well, I've never had any game high or not, lol. It's a wonder I'm married. All of my girlfriends did most of the flirting themselves.

That's not to say it's all good, I'm not that stupid. It does make you lazy, unmotivated, it gives you munchies which then packs on pounds, and while it's not as a bad as cigarettes any smoke is bad for your lungs.

While a few drinks will relax me enough that I actually get better at action games, when I get good and drunk there's only one genre for me: sports games.

If I'm drinking with friends? We always, always fire up either Pigskin Footbrawl or Windjammers/Flying Power Disc on mame :D

EDIT: Of course when I'm drinking with friends we usually wind up playing Settlers of Catan or something, anyways.

I don't know if I'd put it quite like that. It doesn't inhibit motor function the way that alcohol does, though.

I don't think you can say "weed makes YOU more creative". It makes ME more creative, largely because I stop thinking about life and start thinking about fantasy and when I'm stoned I become much more willing to just follow my random trains of thought. I typically concentrate much more ferociously on things when I'm stoned. But everything effects everyone differently.
