OK, I heard a lot about this game. Everyone seems to think its the greatest game on earth. Pokemon on Gameboy color.
Of course, i got no idea about Pokemon. I never watched it or played it, am not sure if its anime turned video game or opposite. I am not sure if the Gameboy version is better than the N64 versions. 0 idea. Pokemon blue purple azul, its all same to me.
I want an honest opinion if any of the pokemon games are worthwhile playing today for some one who is not a fan of the series. If so , which one?

Re: Pokemon on GBC
Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal is, in my opinion, the best game generation in the series, since you essentially get a new game, plus the previous game in one cartridge! Also, who could forget this song, the absolute best song in the whole series:

The games came first. They're one of Nintendo's big cash cows.
The games are usually released in groups, or 'generations' or something. Red and Blue for example, both came out on the same day, and are identical games save for stuff like which wild pokemon you encounter how often and when. You don't need to play more than one game per 'generation'.
Just grab Pokemon Crystal if you want to try it. It's pretty much the peak of the series. It's basically an upgraded version of Gold/Silver with lots of new content.
The n64 games are spinoffs.

Pokemon Crystal is a good time. I loved it and how much bigger it was, plus with Pokemon Stadium 2 and a N64 you can transfer them to the game and use them in battles and mini games and organize them a lot faster and easier.

Re: Pokemon on GBC
I prefer the first games instead of the second generation. I just like the Charmander/Bulbasaur/Squirtle trio and the 151 original Pokémon better.
I'd say, get FireRed or LeafGreen for the GBA. They're remakes of the first games with extras.

Actually if I remember correctly in some regions (if not all) the anime was released before the original 2, you know, to hype the games up?AppleQueso wrote:The games came first. They're one of Nintendo's big cash cows.
Anyways you can go ahead and play the games if you would like, but I would suggest playing Pokemon Crystal, as it has the playing area from both the first batch of games and the new area, and you can get a lot of the pokemon from the Gold and Silver Versions that are unique to each version,

I also promote the second generation games to be the best. I'd say follow that by Firered/Leafgreen, Ruby/Saphire, then Red/Blue, then it just goes downhill...
I have not played the DS remakes of Silver/Gold, but I've heard they're the highest point of the series. Possibly worht looking into.

The original Red/Blue/Green/Yellow havn't aged all that well IMO, but Silver/Gold/Crystal was such an improvement and are still fun to play today so if you want a pokemon game for GBC, id go with those.

Re: Pokemon on GBC
If you're never played a Pokemon game but want to learn what all the hub-ub is about, I suggest picking up Gold, Silver or Crystal for GameBoy Color (ensure that the game you get has a fresh cr32 watch battery soldered onboard) or the DS remakes HeartGold or SoulSilver. The older Pokemon games are stunning, but they have aged and been surpassed. Unless you think you'll play more than one Pokemon game, don't start with Red Blue Green or Yellow.
But if you are going to only play one version of Pokemon, which to get? Each version is the same overall game with the same plot and everything like that, but each has certain Pokemon exclusive and not found without trading with another person. This was GameFreak's brilliant social gaming creator and cash cow marketing technique rolled together and emulated many times since.
Personally, I'm fondest of Pokemon Crystal (GBC, 2001) but again get a cart with a fresh CR32 - without it, the game won't save, won't keep time, and will be essentially unplayable.

Re: Pokemon on GBC
I don't get it,
why would 2 versions of the game be released on the same day?
I have no idea what the game is like. Am I supposed to gather little mothers and beat others monsters with, RPG turn based style?
