3DS Flashcard Scare
So, we all remember Nintendo's rather extreme response to piracy on the 3DS: That they would remotely brick any system that had used a flashcard. Well, it has been some time since they said that, and in that time, several flashcards capable of playing 3DS roms have been released, as well as many existing DSi flashcards have been updated to run on the 3DS. What I want to know is if Nintendo has ever followed through on their initial threats. Has anyone heard any reports of 3DS systems being bricked after using flashcards? It wouldn't surprise me at all if Big N was just blowing smoke.
Re: 3DS Flashcard Scare
There are no flashcards that PLAY 3DS games, at least not to the public, otherwise send me a link ive been wanting one real bad.

Re: 3DS Flashcard Scare
Huh, my mistake. I didn't look terribly close at the capabilities of many of the so-called "3DS flashcards" released so far. But, many DSi cards do work on the 3DS. All I found was this old video of a 3DS flashcard in development:Hazerd wrote:There are no flashcards that PLAY 3DS games, at least not to the public, otherwise send me a link ive been wanting one real bad.

Yeah would be nice if they released one, as bad as it is really i like to try the games before i buy them if i can, and generally Portables dont have demo's at least not Nintendo ones
Re: 3DS Flashcard Scare
To answer your other question I don't think anyone has had troubles with Nintendo by using a flashcart. If you were worried all you need to do is turn off your internet connection when using one. Plus don't a few show up in the log as regular DS games? I don't see how it could be tracked to the point that they would have undeniable proof really.

Nintendo has not remotely bricked anyone's 3DS as far as I know. Pretty sure that would be a big story on gaming sites if it happened. I do not think it will ever happen with the 3DS.

Re: 3DS Flashcard Scare
As mentioned, there isn't a flash card available that runs 3DS games, DS games -yes. Honestly, I rather there not be, people need to start buying their games this handheld generation.
Re: 3DS Flashcard Scare
I'd rather there be a nice flash cart for 3DS ROMs. I love being able to try before I buy, when possible.
Re: 3DS Flashcard Scare
just going to play the Devil's Advocate here, but you guys saying that you like to "try before buy" know that there are an increasing number of demos available in the e-shop right? Just saying that excuse doesnt hold much water after that fact. I agree that people need to actually buy games, I was so bad with the DS, I owned like 1 retail game and got my flash cart and never bought again. I think I have grown out of that mentality now though and have bought most of the big titles for the 3ds on launch day, and I have bought quite a few titles from the e-shop.

Re: 3DS Flashcard Scare
I don't care if it doesn't hold much water in your eyes. It is MY preferred method, when possible. I waste less money when I am able to download full games for a system and try them out. I DO buy what I like. Perhaps many do not. That said, it also helps me keep my collection on the more lean side.
I only own between 70 and 80 games right now. Across 12 platforms. And I like that.
