Fun fact #2: That padded bill is picked up by medicaid and / or medicare which is then passed on to the taxpayers.

So really you are already paying for these 'free loaders'! Hooray!

More fun facts: Key provisions in the affordable health care act are intended to force insurers to lower their costs through competition. Insurance markets and being able to buy plans from companies across state lines will break defacto monopolies. That's a good thing for consumers.

Not saying that the law is going to work but it is the first thing that has been done to address the incredible amount of money we taxpayers are ALREADY paying for other people's exorbitant healthcare. A little preventative care and actual competition in the insurance marketplace could go a long way.

Amen....

...and kudos! I appreciate the fact that you always leave me guessing a little bit about where your thoughts lie on political/social issues like this. It is a good sign that you think things through from a variety of angles. Glad to see you siding with the proponents on this one, as I don't really think I understand the counter-arguments very well and even well articulated opposition seems to have little substantive merit.

That's the only tricky part really. Let's hope this does not lead to price fixing scams.

Important things like health care should be government regulated completely.

Which means prices should also be government regulated...

Except I for one don't believe it will work anything like this in reality. Under the PPACA you are going to have the private plans and then you will have the government plan and because the government is the one coming up with the certification and qualification process for private plans, then the government-sponsered ones will be "pre-qualified." They are essentially creating a nation-wide monopoly where the government plan will be not be fairly competing with the state private plans.

The 'public option' was pulled out of the PPACA version of the bill, Stark. Which is a real shame because it was kind of an important thing to have given math and all.

It's all a moot point, though. Only one of two things will happen now: Either the Affordable Healthcare Act will make things better or they will get worse. If it makes things better, then it will become a defacto holy institution like Social Security or Medicare - untouchable because people will come to expect it to be there. If it does not work, then legislation to undermine it will be drafted as soon as it is politically expedient to do so.

I am always on whatever side of an issue I think will make my country stronger, better, or safer. I do not know what the final result of this act will be (no one does), but I know that our current healthcare system is a huge liability and siphons resources that could be better spent on other projects.

New random thought: As much as I have been complaining lately that I need a weekend to myself, I have a weird knack for inviting people over and making plans.

 I have the same problem. Between school and work I literally do not have a single day off at any point in time (at least, for the past two weeks and the next two weeks), but even though I'm worn out I still manage to make late night plans with people for some reason. I do have one day off tomorrow however, and I'm ensuring that will be kept sacred.

It seems you're trying to change the subject with your last thought, but indulge me one last complaint. The things I quoted ^ above from what you posted is my problem. The bill is 2,700 pages and no one knows truly what's in it, it's confusing as hell. Why does it need to be so long? I feel a little old-timery when I say that, but seriously...over 2,000 pages?

That's the way the government rolls. When you're playing with tax payer dollars and lawyers are a thing that is, you have to cover your ass and spell everything out.

I think most people would say the same thing, but there are a lot of differences of opinion as to what is needed to do any of this...

Random Thought #1: I think 90% of my posts on this video game forum are about music, anime, mocking ebay/craigslist sellers, random thoughts, or things that have nothing to do with video games. Hmmmmm....... :?

Random Thought #2: Anyone else super psyched for the Olympics?

It's not just you, a lot of members here are like that. Myself too, I think. Part of the reason this isn't one of those slow, boring communities.

Nope.
