The Beatles never deliberately put out messages in their music about Paul supposedly being dead, not even to screw with the believers of this myth.

Apparently, you've never heard Glass Onion.

Glass onion: a coffin with see-through lid.
Walrus ("The walrus was Paul"): symbol of death in many European countries.

Also, seriously, he didn't name all those other songs in there to NOT fuck with 'em.

Look into a glass onion... tutu tutu tutu tutu twoom.

It was more of a way to see how any song titles he could reference in one song.

And I never heard of a glass onion being a coffin, or even the Beatles meaning that at all. Nor have I heard the animal "Walrus" being a sign of death in parts of Europe. I'm from America here, but I don't think so. Saying the Walrus was Paul was more of a link to their previous album's song "I am the Walrus" where the chorus goes of course, "I am the Walrus googookachoo" but the song doesn't really mention who is the walrus. John Lennon sings the song though and in the movie he says he is the walrus. It was overall to screw with people looking more into their songs than they should (glass onion, peel away layers but don't see anything) be it believers of Paul is dead, people who believe the band is satanic, etc.

And just so you know, I AM the Walrus!

On that note it is amusing how many different ways people screw up that singsong line in the song when the album came with lyrics. It is "Goo goo goo joob".

It even has the lyrics in the 2009 remaster, which usually just has recording notes and stuff.

But the koo koo kachoo just rolls off the tongue so much better than goo goo goo joob. You have to say that multiple times to get it right where as koo koo kachoo just sounds right off the bat. Wasn't there also another song from that time period that used koo koo kachoo as lyrics anyways? I seem to think there was.

the lyrics mostly meant very little. They were just writing great songs.

By the way, mean Mr Mustard, Sgt Pepper? They just pulled shit from wherever. It sounded to me like they wrote some stuff at lunch! LOL

Also, Mckenzie was the next name in the phone book after Mcartney. Speaking of which they wrote a song about a phone book cover. Martha was Pauls dog.

Also, per Harrison, All Things Must Pass was written before the break up of the Beatles.

They were just having fun and making money. They never thought they would have more than a record or two. They were going to become full time song writers. They actually have 100's of credits for songs they gave or sold.

Actually as a matter of fact the basic idea for the album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" was created during a meal between Paul McCartney and the Beatles road manager Mal Evans.

From the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 2009 Remaster booklet:

Paul McCartney wrote:The first thing I remember was flying back from America with our road manager Mal Evans. Over our meal we were talking about salt and pepper which was misheard as Sgt. Pepper. I then had the idea for the song 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' and thought it would be interesting for us to pretend, during the making of the album, that we were members of this band rather than The Beatles, in order to give us a fresh slant.

Abbey Road doesn't really mention anything about Mean Mr. Mustard in particular, but if your really interested in the history of the Beatles, The Anthology collection would be something you should look into.

But yeah I agree with your post.

If Lennon never got shot, their legacy wouldn't have lasted this long.

I'm pretty sure they'd already cemented their legacy by the time that happened.

They had split for a decade before he got shot. It didn't have anything to do with John Lennon. It could have affected his legacy, but that's a good legacy anyways.
