I don't like it either. You have to have something to say at all times, because sitting around saying nothing on the phone is stupid. There's no room for natural lapses in the conversation.Michi wrote:Oh good. Glad to know I'm not the only one who hates talking on the phone.harper wrote:I totally feel your pain. I realize that it is a necessary evil sometimes, but I still hate doing it.
I didn't mind it half so much when I was young though. I guess I've grown more grumpy as the years pass.

I must've always been grumpy then, because I've never liked it, even when I was littleCFFJR wrote:Same here.Michi wrote:Oh good. Glad to know I'm not the only one who hates talking on the phone.

I've always expressed myself better through writing.

Count me in as another phone-hater. Chalk it up to social anxiety and just a general feeling of awkwardness I guess. I'm also speech-impaired and I do much worse speaking on the phone vs. face-to-face.
I actually won't even answer the landline here because 99% of the calls are either for my wife or they're sales calls. I just let that shit ring.
I also hate listening to other people yak on the phone. So annoying.

Every time I play pinball I'm astonished at how much fun it is. It really is too bad that it's become such a lost art these days.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I don't mind talking so much on the phone if it is business or information being passed. Then it usually has a nice neat 'done' point. I hate chatting on the phone though. As others have said, lapses in the conversation on the phone suck. If you're talking face to face, that's fine and they can be because you're looking at something, contemplating (with an obvious look for that), or if it is an object of your affection, you might be busy looking googly eyed at each other. IM is fine too as lapses can mean anything from fetching a drink, a bathroom trip, the dog barking at something, or you're doing something else at the same time. They're expected.

My problem isn't even so much with the awkwardness of it, I'm not really sure what it is, a fear of sounding/saying something stupid maybe? Idk, but I can't even dial a phone number without feeling like I'm having a panic attack (I start to feel nauseous, heart races, hands get sweaty, all that great stuff). I can handle talking to my mom and girlfriend but don't ask me to call and order food or make a doctor's appointment.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Yet another person reporting in that hates talking on the phone. Guess we have a trend going on here. I dislike talking to people in general, but the phone just seems to be the worst. Idle talk is what pisses me off. If the call is work related or meant to deliver a single point and nothing more, I'm perfectly fine. If the call is meant to just be chit-chat I simply can't take it.

I never liked talking on the phone. Guess I'm not alone.
