Post by ninjainspandex »

not sure whats going on here i just recieved my skeleton saturn today so i hooked it up via s-video and i just got a black and white picture. at first i thought i was screwed but then i took my action replay out of my american saturn and put it in my new one and behold i got color. why does the action replay cart fix this?

in short, it shouldn't.

The way S-Video works, it splits video into light and color (Luma/Chroma). if the chroma pin is loose or damaged, you'll get a B/W picture from the Luma info. Same as if you just plug in the Y cable of a component video setup (pb and pr are just a further split of the chroma (color) pin from s-video). I think it's just co-incidence and your cable probably moved a little bit when you plugged in the cart.

well when i put the action replay in i put it in very gently the system never moved. but i tested your theory i picked up the system shook it a bit danced around with it, still has color with the action replay, i took it out no color put back in color. still think thats my problem? i want to stress that this is a japanese system on an american tv, does that change anything? does the action replay change the signal format my tv likes?

The AR doesn't do anything to the signal. J and US NTSC is the same.

Personally i would take it apart and clean out whatever looks dirty inside.

Give it a thorough cleaning and see what happens.

action replay in most cases does nothing to video mode. for better or worse. games forced into whatever setting the console is at.

ntsc saturn: pal games get to run 60hz ntsc. almost always better, except it causes issues for 50hz optimized titles...
pal saturn: ntsc games remain stuck at disappointing 50hz pal. :(
Lum fan.
