350ish was Hoenn, the third region. We're on the fifth.

Hoenn was when we had Torchic and Mudkip as starters, correct? Because that was the last region I watched the show on, or played the game from...

Honestly, we need to quit making more. What's wrong with what we have?

Yeah, that was Hoenn. They keep making more games so that new fans will get the games, and they keep making more pocket monsters for them so that old fans buy them, too.

Honestly though, we have many ideas that haven't been fleshed out. Like the dark Pokemon, and mysteries with many of the legendaries... meh, I'm probably just being old and cynical. I probably won't get back into without a girlfriend/my eventual kids pulling me back into it.

Maybe just the latter. Bear in mind that Nintendo can only sell each generation to their fans three times, then they need a new cash cow :P

Both the Playstation and PS2 were the highest selling consoles of their generation, by a long shot. And yet, from what I've seen, both on the internet and in my life, they also have the highest failure rate of their respective generations. My cousin is on his 3rd playstation (the first one was a launch, whose disc lense melted. The second just decided to die). I'm on my second PS2 (The first was a ps2 phat that had its disc tray snapped off).
Then I direct you to this:
Then you look at the other numbers (all from wikipedia, rounded up).
Sega Saturn: 10 million
Sega Dreamcast: 11 million
Microsoft Xbox: 24 million
Nintendo 64: 33 million
Nintendo Gamecube: 22 million
Sony Playstation: 102 million
Sony Playstation 2: 154 million
I have never had, heard of, or seen any of these die, (except for the xbox in the video, and that was because the power button came off, and the dreamcast's disc lense problems).
Now, I'm not saying that the playstations didn't have good games, or didn't sell on their own merits, or anything like that. I'm just wondering how many of the sony numbers are replacement consoles that sony added onto their sold console numbers to make them look better. All the other consoles up there ^ rarely, if ever, fail. So, you wouldn't need to get a replacement for them, and you'd have that thing until it died of old age.
Consoles: N64, Wii, Dreamcast, PS2, SNES, Saturn, Genesis, PS3, NES, Wii U, 2600, PS4
Handhelds: Game Boy Advance, 3DS, PSP, New 3DS

I don't think console replacements could pad the numbers anywhere near as much as you're implying.

Most people I knew, if they had to replace their consoles, just bought a used one.

My family's 2002 phat PS2 is still working great. In fact, all my PS2s work great, but I still have 3 of them.

I never watch sports on TV, but I ended up seeing tonight's game anyway. I was in a nearly empty bar drinking artificially sweetened lemon ice tea, talking with the two waiters really close to closing time. They were waiting for two super drunk old people to finally leave. Quite the atmosphere.

I had a Saturn and a Gamecube that died, plus I've seen several dead Dreamcasts. N64 is very uncommon to see dead, but being cartridge based means no laser troubles or moving parts. That said, I've seen lots of broken PS2s and PS1s, but I wonder if they're proportionally a similar number - I mean, I've seen lots more PS1s and PS2s than I have the other consoles.
