Being naked in "On the Road" doesn't hurt either.

haha. She's been in her underwear in every single movie I've seen her in. I feel like it's her signature.

Maybe it was just Panic Room, but I subsequently hated her in Into the Wild and Adventureland as well.

To each his own, and I'm not sure how the third point has any bearing here. If she can't be charismatic on the reel, I don't care what she's like on the tube.

I was really hoping "that penguin movie" would be the final nail in the Carrey coffin. And I adore his serious acting! Give me Man on the Moon, Eternal Sunshine or Truman... But no, we get another Bruce Almighty.

I tried watching Metropolitan on Netflix... I barely made it 5 minutes. I don't think I've ever detested a film so deeply in my life. Pretentious shit, do not watch.

I liked Panic Room! Or are you just saying you didn't like Stewart in Panic Room? I like Fincher movies for the most part though.

Did you see The Majestic, that wasn't too bad. Liked it.

Totally wasn't what I was expecting. Expected a lot of camp, lots of laughs, but this movie takes itself too seriously. It is rarely fun or funny and the action sequences, although packed with gun-fu, are quite monotonous.

Not to say the movie lacks all appeal, but if you walk in the theater thinking you are about to see an hour and a half of laugh out loud intentional silliness, you'll be disappointed.
I don't plan on seeing it for the same reason. The first trailer months ago looked cheesily awesome. Then I saw the later trailer at another movie recently that was all serious and ruined it.

To be fair, there's precious few child actors that I enjoy (Stewart's issues were largely seperate from her $35 million "vapid, pouty and stoned" routine...) But I didn't like Panic Room much either.

Haven't seen The Majestic; doesn't look like my type of movie and I'm not overly fond of Darabont.

Everyone is familiar with the phrase "never meet your hero", and interviews with actors are the same way. Ever watched an interview with Harrison Ford? The guy is a complete space case. Stewart, however, interviews very, very well.

Not only does this sit well with her fans, it creates sales. If I was casting any movie with the bottom line solely in mind, Stewart is a no brainer for the heroine, be her character soft or tough.

I enjoyed Sunshine, but couldn't stand Moon or Truman. Good performances, awful movies. Still enjoy how dumb DUMB & DUMBER is. Plus an appearance from Cam fucking Neely may be the best cameo ever. Better than Tyson in the Hangover if ya ask me.

Congratulations, you found a movie I hate even more than Dumb and Dumber.

It's been a while since I've seen Man on the Moon (to the extent that it's a little fuzzy) but what do you have against The Truman Show? I found it to be eerily prophetic.

And I'm pretty sure Harrison saves his "vapid and stoned" shtick for the interviews because he's actually just stoned.

I didn't get nearly as much enjoyment from it as I did movies like Despicable Me, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train your Dragon, and other similar types of movies. I may have to give it a second watch because I can't say why exactly I didn't love it, as it's certainly a well put together movie.
I thought it was the best movie of it's type in years. Way better than anything Dreamworks has put out since Shrek 2.
I think I just didn't like Rango himself. I found him a very off putting character. So every time they tried to do something funny with him I wasn't laughing. Every time I was supposed to root for him, I sort of didn't care. Dreamworks movies like How to Train Your Dragon and the Kung Fu Panda movies had characters I could easily get behind. Rango was just...annoying. The movie was great, but the main character wasn't. This is coming from a Johnny Depp fan. It's not anything against how he plays the character, just how the character's written. He's too weird and awkward, to the point of just not being likable I felt, and the comedy beats with him often just don't work because they are so forced and predictable. I'm gonna give it a second watch though to see if I feel differently, but I think the main character is just poorly handled. I actually enjoyed the female character more, with her funny "freeze" moments. Rango himself though, is borderline obnoxious. He's a lovable loser who actually isn't lovable at all..

I don't want to say too much about this movie. It's best to watch without any expectations. I'll just say if you like monster movies or British films, it's worth your time. Good movie for fans of JJ's movie Super 8 or Cloverfield

WHAT!?

Dude, no way. I know we all have opinions but this film is nowhere NEAR Super8 or Cloverfield. It was 90 minutes of walking around.
The characters are completely shallow, .01 dimensional, and the 'monsters' are basically animals from another planet. It has some of the worst direction I've ever seen. Even Cloverfield with it's found footage motif has better direction. The movie spends about half of itself 'establishing' the characters. And those characters are established as "rich guys daughter that's dumb and douche that would love to pound her for another notch on his belt." The 2 or 3 times you see any of the monsters, especially the one scene where they are basically mating don't make up for the lack of literally anything in the film. Then there's the scene where it tries to crecendo into a moment that will 'reveal' a monster/alien, even with the pumping music. "dun dun dun... DUN DUN DUN!!! DUN DUN DUN!!!!!! - its a cow."
90 minutes of walking around? What movie were you watching?

Anyway, I didn't say it was as good as those movies, just similar. There are elements from both Super 8 and Cloverfield at play in Monsters. I like that Monsters plays around with your expectations. Also, what you describe as "shallow" characters I describe as "normal" people. I don't know where you get that the girl is dumb or that the guy just wants to pound her.
The one time he makes a serious attempt to bed her is when he's drunk. The movie even makes that clear through actual dialog. As for the girl being dumb, she actually seems more observant and insightful throughout the movie than he is.
