There's a difference between suppressing religion and people giving up religion.Forlorn Drifter wrote:Well, every form of writing or speech can be taken differently, depending on the person. It seems like the song is trying to get a message of peace and happiness, but it comes off a bit as saying that we have to remove religion comepletely to have that happen. We've seen what happens when the faithful aren't allowed to have their religion. It generally does not end well.CFFJR wrote: I am curious though, what is it about Imagine that bothers you?
Sorry, that's bothered me ever since I was old enough to understand the lyrics.

Re: Tell me about the beatles
I'm wondering why people that don't care for the Beatles keep posting in the thread. If you're sure in your opinion and aren't going to be swayed that's fine, why bother poking your head in the thread? Just like no amount of reason, coercion, or torture will change my mind about Deus Ex, I just stay out of threads and discussions about it. *shrug*

And figures I'd post that right after Popo.

Re: Tell me about the beatles
The thing that amazes me is that they maintained the quality of their music, or maybe even got better, despite the death of a key member in 1966. Maybe it was the pain and anguish that they felt upon the loss of Paul that drove their creativity. For instance, Yesterday has got to be one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Imagine there's no Internet
No matter how hard you try.
People will still tell you they hate things
With no reason why.
Imagine a board with no trolling
It's not too hard to do.
No excessive spam or self promotion
And all url's and isp's are true.
Doobie, doobie doo.
You may say
I'm a wiener.
But I'm not the only one
Read every post from emalgochris,
And show me one that isn't dumb.

edit+ not a jab at chris, just the first one to come to mind. Sorry chris, but your name has the right number of syllables.

A Paul is dead believer eh? My only beef is that George and John were far better talents than Paul. Paul is a pop-star through and through.

Paul is still alive, isn't he?

Re: Tell me about the beatles
A shame that George's talents were supressed so much by the band. His contributions to Revolver and Abbey Road were some of the highlights of otherwise fantastic albums.wclem wrote:My only beef is that George and John were far better talents than Paul. Paul is a pop-star through and through.
Also, idk if anyone is still debating the worth of the Beatles still, but each member of the band (even Ringo) could produce phenomenal albums on their own, but when put together produced perfect albums.
And Paul is still a very respectable musician anyways. Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band was majorly his work and idea, with others collaborating. That's also the best selling Beatles album. My only beef with Paul is even though he wasn't lazy, he pushed for a ridiculous amount of albums that had lots of filler. If he took his time and set his standards higher, he could have full albums that could go against the other members.
Re: Tell me about the beatles
At one point the Beatles put out hidden messages suggesting that Paul is dead. There are a group of people who are convined that this wasn't just them screwing with people and making fun of reports of "hidden satanic messages" from media watchdog groups.wclem wrote:Just some urban legend. Re: Tell me about the beatles
The Beatles never deliberately put out messages in their music about Paul supposedly being dead, not even to screw with the believers of this myth. The only member of the band who really actively sought to screw with their fans and the public in general was John Lennon, putting a bunch of meaningless phrases in "I Am the Walrus" and the statement the song "Revolution" had. Seeing what all he did after going solo, I get the feeling he was chained down to what he wanted to do with the band.MrPopo wrote:At one point the Beatles put out hidden messages suggesting that Paul is dead.
