That's pretty standard. You don't give an ETA until you know exactly what needs to be done and exactly how much work it'll take. The power company does that all the time when outages are reported.

At least you got them to admit that it was a line issue. It shouldn't take them too long to straighten out. Definitely bitch until they give you a credit though.

BTW, all telecoms suck when it comes to line issues, not just cable companies. ATT/Uverse in my area is no better than cable, and costs 4x as much to have installed. There's a reason telecommunication companies are routinely some of the worst rated companies for customer service (actually, several reasons lol). I'm glad I no longer work for cable companies and moved in to web hosting for a company that actually cares about its customer accounts staying around.
