So what have you guys been watching lately?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

The Killing ended last night.

The First Season started out good. Then it got bogged down by torrential rain, only to leave everyone hanging :?

Season 2 started a bit slow, but then picked up 1/3 of the way through. It had less rain (thank god) and a semi-satisfying ending.

I say semi-satisfying because it took way too freaking long to get there. I get that it's a mystery and they want to keep everybody guessing. It's a modern Who-done-it. The problem was they included too many suspects and it took way too long to get through all of them. There were too many branching story paths and, spread over two seasons, it got pretty confusing.

Not that it wasn't a good story, it was just that it was too ambitious to fit into one season and it needed to be condensed.

I believe the show this was originally based on focused on one death per season. If by some miracle they get a third season I hope they go back to that formula.

During one of those trivia things they do before and after a commercial break, they asked what was Mario's original name. I don't remember what they said the answer was, but the right answer wasn't even one of the options, which would be Jump Man.
I don't know what you're talking about guy, but the correct answer of Jump Man was there. I remember because I paused the DVR and asked my wife to guess.

It absolutely was not. I made a big deal about it. Especially the part about them saying Mario couldn't even jump in his first appearance.

I think what you're thinking of was not in the trivia question, but instead when they were discussing Donkey Kong on the countdown. They mentioned that Mario's name was going to be "Mr. Video" (which was an idea before they decided on Jump Man) and that initially when they were designing the game he could not jump )but Miyamoto realized that it would be a much better game if he could.)

I had to go and YouTube it, because this was a nerd moment for me that I went off to my wife about:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MClVPY_b ... 0EFC890A31

Go to 15:55 and it's there. The choices they give are:

A. Mr. Plumber
B. Plumber Man
C. Mr. Video
D. Play Man

No Jumpman in those choices. And they said the answer was "C. Mr. Video". So it stands: G4 doesn't know what their talking about on the very subject they're supposed to have a specialty in, video games.

They also added "Not only did the name Mario come later, so did his ability to jump." Which was the part I was going nuts about to my wife and she could have really cared less.

^hmm. I must have been drunk. Although again, they're not completely wrong. He was going by the name Mr. Video as an unofficial work-in-progress name early in the development. And the ability to jump wasn't thought of before development, but during. Not that I'm defending G4. I'm sure they just nabbed that info off of wikipedia.

I was relatively happy with the ending of the killing. They really did drag it out to the last minute. Overall a decent show,i wouldnt cry if it didnt get picked up for a 3rd season, but itd be great if they just gave holder his own show. Hes playing robocop. . .

So I'm giving Friday Night Lights a shot. It's a show I would never have given the time of day, as I don't like football or other sports, and I don't really go for the religious, political views the characters in this show would have. However, I keep hearing how great the show was, and that's coming from other people who I don't think would watch a show like this.

So does anyone else watch Downton Abbey? I have about 3 episodes left in Season 2 (the most recent season) and so far it is easily some of the best TV I've seen this decade.

It makes me wonder what other hidden gems may be lurking on 21st Century British TV in the drama genre. I am pretty good with keeping up on at least some British comedy and don't know what sci-fi exists outside of Dr. Who, but British drama is a big blind spot for me.
