If it is stuck for some days already and irritating you, you should indeed go to the doctor (as you are planning to). Don't just get it fixed, ask him in advance what to do if it happens again.
Usually the best thing to do, considering this happens to you frequently, is not letting much water inside in the first place. Consider always using silicone ear plugs when showering and swimming. Probably this is what the doctor will advise you to do.

Re: Getting water out of my ear!
Well, what happened? Did you get it out?
Re: Getting water out of my ear!
A lot of doctors will prescribe Benadryl for this kind of problem, along with pseudoephedrine. You also may need to have your ear irrigated.
Do you shower before bed or wear earplugs to sleep? Try stopping these things temporarily and see if the problem goes away.

Did you get it fixed on your own or did the doctor take care of it? Still, you should go see an ENT (Ear Nose Throat) doctor to have your ears checked for wax buildup. I remember years ago having to have it taken care of and they removed a huge chunk of wax. Amazing.

Re: Getting water out of my ear!
for future reference:
1) put in heaviest brutal metal cd into whichever device you can find.
2) head bang.
3) by the third song it should be cleared. If not, try the following artists: Slayer, Sepultura, Fear Factory (but only the older stuff), Pantera. If you have any more brutal more aggressive artists in your catalog, god loves you.

I hate having my ear irrigated. It is unpleasant, if done wrong (which is admittedly very unlikely) can burst your eardrum. The most recent time I had that done (by a nurse, not a doctor) it uncleared my ear very briefly before it clogged back again (I presume because some of the water from the irrigation stayed around)!
I already vastly preferred other methods but after this last experience with irrigation (which left my ear blocked anyway) I intend to never have that done again.
In cases of wax blockage I rather suggest going to a specialist and having it sucked out with a specific narrow vacuum. It is still unpleasant (it is a bit noisy right next to your ear and all) but should be safer and more effective.
