Re: So what have you guys been watching lately?
so last week G4 did a week-long countown of their Top 100 games of all time. I DVR'd it and watched it here and there. Obviously it was filled with a lot of really obvious choices, some insane ommissions, and too much iOS for my taste... but whatever, I always find these kinds of lists fun no matter. But what was really awesome was that my wife actively watched all 5 hours and made note of all the games she wanted to try for herself. Resident Evil and Silent Hill 2 didn't shock me, as she's a big horror movie fan. But I was floored when she asked me "why don't we own Bioshock???"

I don't know. My exposure to FPS games is pretty slim. I picked up Borderlands mostly because I love the cell-shaded look. Though I have to concur with my wife on Bioshock -- "it just looks so pretty!"

There's a LOOOT of that list I disagree with. All the good things about G4 are dyeing or have left...noiseredux wrote:so last week G4 did a week-long countown of their Top 100 games of all time. But Bioshock is good, but don't let it get overhyped. I was pretty dissapointed with it, honestly.

I still have to watch the last 2 episodes (out of 5). So far, it's not a bad list. But I would argue with the placement of some of them. A lot of them seem like they should be higher on the list. Sonic the Hedgehog being the main one that I thought we'd see in the top 20.noiseredux wrote:so last week G4 did a week-long countown of their Top 100 games of all time. I hate the goofy VH1 wannabe parts with people joking about the games, though. I would have enjoyed it a lot more if went into the history, gameplay, and fan-reception of these games more.

There's a reason DVR was invented in close proximity to the proliferation of reality TV.BurningDoom wrote:I hate the goofy VH1 wannabe parts with people joking about the games, though. I would have enjoyed it a lot more if went into the history, gameplay, and fan-reception of these games more.

Yeah, Bioshock was good, nothing more, nothing less. The amount of critical acclaim it got was ridiculous. People were calling it some kind of brilliant work of genius.Forlorn Drifter wrote:There's a LOOOT of that list I disagree with. That happens a lot these days though. Most of the best games are NOT the ones that get all the critical acclaim and hype. You put out a game that just does something a little different from whatever else is out at the time, and people talk about your game like it's a frikking Mona Lisa or something
It is so ridiculously easy to impress the gaming press these days, making it hard to really know what the truly brilliant games are

Oh yeah, I just wanted to point out something that was ENTIRELY wrong in the Top 100 Video Games show that they did:
During one of those trivia things they do before and after a commercial break, they asked what was Mario's original name. I don't remember what they said the answer was, but the right answer wasn't even one of the options, which would be Jump Man. Not only that, but they went on to say that Mario couldn't even jump in his original appearance...WHAT?! What about jumping over the barrels to earn points? Donkey Kong is his original appearance, right?

That's exactly the way I feel about Bioshock, along with God War and Assassin's Creed. Decent games but not worth all of the unconditional love and adoration the gaming press showers upon them.Gamerforlife wrote: Yeah, Bioshock was good, nothing more, nothing less. Re: So what have you guys been watching lately?
I finished Deep Space Nine.
Kind of annoyed the "TNG" universe disappeared shortly after the series was over. It would have been nice to get some follow up.
It sort of felt like the show runners were hoping for some movie potential. At the very least, there was definitely some finality missing to everything.
It's not a poor ending, but ... it does leave you wanting a bit more, overall.
