Abuse was listed in that giant image of DOS games I recently posted. It's a classic and it's free if you use Desura (which is also free).
Abuse is a great game, a true classic. The main appeal is that it has a very cool control system where you aim with the mouse and move with the keyboard - on a 2d side-scroller (I think you also jump with a mouse button but I don't remember)!
I was a fan of this type of control since playing Walker on the Amiga (I think Walker is actually one of the rare Amiga exclusives never ported elsewhere), but Abuse did it better (Walker just moved left and right anyway).
Abuse implemented it very well, with good level design etc.
Sadly I don't think there have been many more games of that type.
Has anyone else seen this Gamersgate Void thing? I have no idea if you have to make a purchase or not first. I threw Risen in my slot just because it was the only game that appealed to me and it looks like they stay there about two weeks (though that may vary from game to game.) I doubt I'll be "upgrading" anytime soon, since I'd rather spend my blue coins on more games.
Anyways, here's the titles that stuck out at me, most of which I already owned:
-Men of War
-King's Bounty
-Majesty
-Cursed Mountain
-Abe's Oddysee
-Dark Void
-Perimeter 2
-FlatOut
-Ballz 3D!!!
They had Jagged Alliance 2 on there yesterday, but it seems to be gone now? I'm sure hardcore strategy/Paradox fans will love to see Hearts of Iron and Europa Universalis on there but that's not really my scene.
StarForge is like the bizarre bastard child of Minecraft and Halo. You can terraform and build the environment to your liking in a space marine setting. The gameplay itself is like an abstracted tower defense game where you build turrets and traps to defend your space fortress. Right now, the prototype is free, but the full game will be something you pay for once it is complete.
Here is another free game available in Desura. It is pretty cool too. You are a robot that can transform into a pinball and you are in a giant pinball machine with giant floating platforms above it. It plays a bit like Marble Madness when you are in ball form, and otherwise you run freely and punch and jump as the robot. It could use some slightly better level design because some puzzles were easily solved by transforming in a way that made it feel kind of like cheating, but it's a great concept and if they do more with it, they could really take it somewhere. The game is short and you can probably finish it in 30 minutes or so. It has some nice Unreal Engine graphics that provide a convincing pinball world setting.

This is the latest game from Nicolau Chaud who is a game designer I'm very interested in for his ability to tread deeply into the disturbing. This is the guy that made Marvel Brothel and Dungeoneer: Beautiful Escape, which I have posted about here in the past. He is a psychologist in Brazil and a freelance game designer. His work is usually simplistic RPG maker stuff, but the themes he deals in are not the usual video game fair, in fact, they are the things most people never talk about. He's interested in the deepest darkest regions of the human psyche and his games usually make people uncomfortable because they tap into areas that they themselves don't even want to admit are there.
So I'm excited to be repulsed by this game. Polymorphous Perversity is all about sex and every kind of perversion imaginable. The game title screen opens to the sounds of the smacking fap of masturbation. That alone should let you know he's not going to be shy about the topic. I haven't played beyond that before coming here to post about this project. I've been waiting for its release ever since it was first announced a few months ago. I would suggest downloading now before it gets banned.
True Remembrance - A doujinshi visual novel. There are no decision points or acting, just one storyline, but it's very well done. The official English translation is available for free. http://trueremembrance.insani.org/index.html
A fairly simple premise, done very well - a pandemic disease causes situational depression, driving many people to suicide. While it's possible for a person to overcome, many do not, and the government trains Mnemonicides, who can erase memories, curing depression in even the weak-willed.
It's pretty, too.

This is a miniature zelda-esque version of Minecraft. And before you start complaining that this is a ripoff of Minecraft, keep in mind that it was programmed by Notch himself. This was his entry into the Ludum Dare contest, which is a contest where game designers create a game within 48 hours and then see who comes up with the best mini products.
Given this is part of Ludum Dare, don't expect too much now, but Notch is apparently rather taken with this little creation of his and intends to make a larger game in the future called Minitale. Until then, you can enjoy Minicraft either via download or in your browser by clicking on the linked image above.
