You mean Nintendo World Championships, I think. Only the '94 was called Powerfest, but it was also called World Championships II.
That was a great time. All I remember is playing Gargoyles on Gameboy, playing Castlevania III in beta form, and of course competing in the contest. That day was a blur.

This isn't a big deal, but I am interested in accuracy so I researched a little more. I cannot find any concrete evidence that the first show was called Powerfest. Wiki is certainly not reliable. In fact the link to Powerfest '90 is absent. The only other web listings are personal accounts - people simply stating "Powerfest '90". I'm not saying you're lying, or absolutely wrong, but I need more evidence. The only things I can say for certain is that the first show was called Nintendo World Championships, and the second was called Powerfest '94 as well as Nintendo World Championships II. You may be right. In fact, the more I think about it I'm inclined to agree, but I would like to see some actual proof.
You know, in my research, I checked nintendo.com, and could find no mention of it. Just sad. With such great history, you'd think they could devote some pages to it. The site though is for nothing more than commercial purposes.
I've wanted to go to E3 for YEARS. But when I first got the idea, it was still just for those 18+. But now that I'm old enough, they've closed it off to press and industry.

The game room is run by gamers, not anime fans. Next year the con is moving to a new location and I should have at least 3000 sq/f. I take pride in the room my group and I setup and run. The only issue is due to it's size, sometime you cannot get all the playtime you want. But most of us old timers like to wax nostalgic anyhow. Oh, yeah...we drink a lot too.
Small world. I'm from NC, too. I've wanted to go to Animazement. I've also wanted to go to DragonCon in GA, but I don't think that they still do that thing with cast members of "The Tribe".
