What I think about E3 2012.
What I think about E3 2012.
That was the worst fucking E3 I have ever seen in my entire life. Nintendo's conference was the worst, holy shit that was terrible. All Microsoft had was a bunch of new ways to browse through movies and Kinect bullshit. Pikmin 3 looks like a 5 dollar Xbox Live arcade title and New Super Mario Bros U looks exactly the same as all the others. Nintendoland was nothing but an uninspired Mario Party rehash. HATED THIS YEAR'S E3!!! What a colossal disappointment! Only conference that wasn't completely terrible was Sony's thanks to Playstation All Stars Battle Royale, God of War Ascension and The Last of Us. Would've been a good showing by Sony had it not been for that Wonderbook bullshit. Holy Hell I'm pissed off right now. It seems the hardcore gamer has been neglected in favor of a bunch of dancing/singing karaoke, and party minigame casual bullshit that you can just as easily find on a .99 cent cell phone game or a Zynga browser game. WAKE THE FUCK UP PEOPLE!
The Wii-U is going to be a dumping ground for ports of games we've already played with tacked on tablet motion controls kind of like we saw with the Wii early in the generation. Zombie-U looks like a cumbersome mess that might as well have been some crappy Kinect game, and it looks like it's on rails too.
EA's press conference was mostly shit. Bioware's CEO Ray Muzyka looked like Hell. He was sweating bullets, and it's clear he's gained several pounds since he last appeared in public. The guy was a sweating, stuttering, nervous wreck. Basically the physical manifestation of Bioware. What was sad about it was that you could tell he didn't want to be there and you could tell he didn't really mean the things he said. Everyone knows The Old Republic underperformed and Ray Muzyka knows that Bioware is suffering because of it.
I can't blame him. After Mass Effect 2 he was the head of one of the most beloved development studios in the world and now his company is experiencing layoffs, The Old Republic has not met expectations and he can't give us any news on any other projects outside of content update for The Old Republic, an MMORPG that people are abandoning in droves.
Ubisoft surprisingly stole the show. Assassin's Creed III looks great and so does the PS Vita spin off, Assassin's Creed Liberation. Far Cry 3 looks ok but I don't like the huge emphasis on everything being Co-op these days, same goes for Dead Space 3. Dead Space 3 looks great but why would anyone want to play a survival horror game co-op? Doesn't that make it less scary?
Anyways, fuck this show.

Largely, E3 has become more about pleasing the shareholders and not much else.
That said, I'm excited for Watch Dogs, Last of Us, ZombiU, Rayman, and Lego City, but the show was pretty meh.

I'm not sure if it's the worst ever, but it is definitely the worst E3 in a looooong time. An absolute snooze fest so far.

Yeah, it was rather dull this year but The Last of Us looks really good. I can't wait, Naughty Dog is Sony's best exclusive developer.

Yeah, Ubisoft was mostly good aside from that Dance bullshit. I'd rather Kevin Butler piss in my ear than have to hear Move Like Jagger ever again.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Read

Rayman Origins was an awesome game so that by default makes me excited about Rayman Legends. Watch Dogs looks pretty damn amazing too even though I hear that's the PC version they showed.
Beyond for the PS3 was technically impressive but good God what a smug, pretentious asshole that developer was. Was it a game? Was it a movie? If it's another Heavy Rain then fuck it.

NSMB was one of the best platformers ever, so I'd be cool with a mission pack sequel.Busomjack wrote:New Super Mario Bros U looks exactly the same as all the others.

I agree. These CGI/quicktime "video games" do nothing for me. Stuff like Time Gal was fun back in the 1990s, but it feels strange to have something like this on current gen consoles. Just make it a movie.Busomjack wrote: Beyond for the PS3 was technically impressive but good God what a smug, pretentious asshole that developer was. Was it a game? Was it a movie? For those who play sports, the madden 13 news was great. Rpg football time. This is a feature I have wanted for years.

QuanticDream's stuff is a bit of an acquired taste. They can be a bit pretentious, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't find Heavy Rain to be a very moving and worthwhile experience, even if it wasn't much of a game.Busomjack wrote: Beyond for the PS3 was technically impressive but good God what a smug, pretentious asshole that developer was. I still need to play through Fahrenheit/IP. I hear it's ridiculous.

I guess it might be okay if we can see Ellen Paige's tits. Don't think she's jailbait anymore and Heavy Rain had tits so there's hope.

Considering that NSMBWii was a fantastic game, I fail to see how this is a bad thing.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Busomjack wrote:New Super Mario Bros U looks exactly the same as all the others.
The one that I'm more confused about NSMB2. Like... why the obsession with gold? Also the naming scheme for the NSMB games are starting to get pretty convoluted.
