What? I'm interested in the concept, and I want to reward DC for taking a chance.

I think buying a comic to reward DC for having a gay character (which has been done plenty of times before) when you don't usually buy comics to be odd.

So the Green Lantern is gay now. What's the point of that even? I guess just to get a rise out of people? I'm not sure how making the Green Lantern have butt secks is going to add anything to the comics.

He's very much the character he was. He's still the pinnacle of bravery and idealism. He's also gay.

Okay then... when I read character bios for Wolverine or Iron Fist or whatever, it usually doesn't read as: "Wolverine is a mutant who possesses animal-keen senses, enhanced physical capabilities, three retracting bone claws on each hand and a healing factor that allows him to recover from virtually any wound, he's also straight."

I don't have anything against gays or transgendered people, what I'm getting at is, isn't making a spectacle of people that are gay the opposite of what you guys want? Seems counter productive to me when a person's sexual orientation is put on the spotlight because they're gay, pointing it out is making it seem "not normal". Besides, there's a little gay in all of us!

This is exactly what DC does with the Batwoman book. Each issue carries this intro:

"Kate Kane survived a brutal kidnapping by terrorists that left her mother dead and her twin sister lost. Following her father's footsteps, she vowed to serve her country and attended West Point until she was expelled under "Don't ask, don't tell". Now she is many things: estranged daughter, grieving sister, proud lesbian, brave soldier, determined hero. She is Batwoman"

It's like a big neon sign saying, "Buy this book if you're gay!"

Hell, it's probably the only reason to buy her books, as the character has absolutely nothing to do with Batman, which makes the name and costume make no sense at all. Bat fans are better served reading Batgirl

I don't care what consenting adults do behind closed doors or publicly within generally accepted social norms, but turning Alan Scott gay is just lazy headline grabbing sensationalism coinciding with convention season.

Is shoehorning same sex relationships into superhero comics a reflection on DC's current audience? Guess the jocks and meatheads back in high school were right, comic books are for fags. Stupid jokes aside, if that's the case, don't modern readers deserve more sophisticated ideas than "Let's make Green Lantern queer?"

I know he said "stupid joking aside", but he seemed pretty serious about it.

He can speak for himself, but bikeage isn't the type to throw out "fag" as an insult. Thought it was pretty clear he was mocking DC and stating that this move is a step back for comic writing and that it reflects comic fans as being idiots would who eat shit up just because it's "different".

No offense intended. But people who love comics, well, they're not going to buy a comic because someone is revealed as gay. That's not a story, and unless the story revolves around the trials of being gay, sexual preference is null and void.

Yeah, I know I shouldn't be looking to Internet commenters for prime examples of humanity, but a lot of these seem particularly vile.
