Funny you say that. Brian Wilson composed Pet Sounds in order to "one up" Rubber Soul, (and he later admitted that he didn't quite achieve that), and then when Revolver came out, he began composing music for Smile (which didn't see a release until the 2004), but then gave up after the Beatles released Sgt. Pepper.

I guess I'd have to respectfully disagree with Brian on that one. Pet Sounds is my favorite album of all-time.

I do not know of a similar sounding song by a different band.

I don't want to laugh but what the hell is this hahaha . I am really not into that "deep lyrics you have to understand what is not obvious" kind of thing.

I also tried to figure whats so special about Helter Skelter, whatever its called, but I read the lyrics and I got nothing. I don't even know what that phrase means.

The other thing I noticed is that the band has a wide range of music genres for example Let it Be->I am the Walrus->helper Skelter

I also noticed that I recognize a lot of the tunes from their songs even though I listened to them for the first time.


Though I wonder if anything revolutionary by the Beatles was done by the members themselves, or were they just the face for a guy behind the scenes. Because thats what usually happens, the real artist is behind the face of the musician. The lyrics and music is made by some one else, and the singer just comes out and sings it, and all of a sudden its "his" .

Though I still don't see the big deal over the beatles, looks to me a lot of similar bands existed. Whoever said their songs are time-less I think I can easily recognize its the 60's and from Britain . And their Helter Skelter seems similar to the songs they dance the twist to from same era. Now this is only what I noticed, but I could be wrong.

No way. Revolutionary Beatles were definitely all Beatles. Less so Ringo, who actually was a source of embarrassment for the rest of the band. Paul used to come in after sessions and lay down percussion tracks to replace the shoddy job Ringo did. But Paul, John, and George all wrote their own music, and you can definitely tell from the styles alone. Each has a very distinct sound that the others can't quite replicate, nor, I suppose, would they want to.

Timeless doesn't mean you can't recognize which period it's from. It's being able to enjoy it no matter which period you're in. Homer's Iliad is clearly an archaic Greek poem, but it's still enjoyed today, so much in fact that movies and TV shows are constantly spun from it. Sonic the Hedgehog is timeless, but any one of us can easily recognize it as a mid-gen Genesis game.

I think one would have a better appreciation for the Beatles if one were to listen to music from the few years before they came onto the scene.

Brian Wilson is drugged out crazy funny. True story, while at a California restaurant Bono of U2 noticed Wilson, ran over to him and began to tell Wilson how much his work influenced his own and that he had always been a fan of Wilson.

Wilson replied by asking Bono for a diet coke.

A lot of this was people trying to copy them though. Just like with movies, books, and video games, when something starts becoming really popular there are lots of imitators that pop up. Sparkly vampires? Gotta cash in on that. Zombies are the new hotness? Put them in everything! There's this thing called debstep that a (not very good) guy has become the face for? Dubstep everything!

I haven't read any sort of answer from an interview on this song, but I think it is just stream of consciousness.

I've read "I am the Walrus" was intentionally gibberish to mess with people who were over-analysing the beatle's lyrics.

I just love the weird sound of the song.
