I like pretty much all of the main fighters, but out of the 3D ones - Tekken has always been my main passion
I just enjoy it more than any other
the reason I originally started playing it was because of Hwoarang, I was doing ITF Tae Kwon Do at the time, and one of the black belts said you should check out Hwoarang.
I couldnt believe how 'realistic' looking it was when we went to the arcade, apart from the Hunting Hawk obviously
Hwoarang is very realistic (well as realistic as possible without being dull)
for example the twisting kick he does is pretty much EXCLUSIVELY an ITF/Tang Soo Do kick
the pattern he does at the intro to Tekken 3 is actually the ITF Tae Kwon Do pattern 'Hwa-Rang'
in fact one of the only unrealistic thing about him is he was supposedly a student of Baek, who according to his uniform at least, is a WTF practitioner
incidentally 'Do San' is also the name of a Tae Kwon Do pattern
anyway Ill end my irrelevant ramble there, in short I love Tekken, I dont dislike Virtua Fighter or DOA, but of 3D fighters I like Tekken the most
Up until Tekken 5 had came out I would have said Soul Calibur was my favourite, as Tekken 4 was pretty much a POS, but since Tekken 5 and the return of a 'proper Jin' of sorts in Devil Jin, I prefer Tekken to Soul Calibur again - just

I really enjoy Soul Calibur, but I can't call it best. It's the most graphically impressive on the DC, but the gameplay is a little unpredictable. Having billions of moves is not necessarily deep. It also lacks a little in balance.
The realism of some of the moves really draws people to Tekken, but the characters look so stiff to me. They hold those identical fighting poses and when they attack there's no heft behind it. That and the control scheme just isn't as intuitive as my favorites...
Virtua Fighter (series) and Dead or Alive.
Virtua Fighter is also a little stiff, but it doesn't feel as stiff as Tekken, and with VF3 they added more lateral movement than any Tekken game had had to that point, not to mention the varied terrain. Besides that, VF has a very intuitive, yet demanding control scheme: punch, kick, block. Wanna knee, tap forward and kick. Tap back and kick and many characters will draw back and then kick out. The combinations of buttons and motions seemed to match very closely the movements the characters were making, and it made gameplay feel very natural and fluid to me.
Dead or Alive gets props, too. Not as balanced as VF, but even in its newest incarnations you can still tell it's inspired by Virtua Fighter. DOA2 broke lots of neat ground. It was good looking, fluid, and the characters in DOA seem to move much more fluidly and in a much more lifelike fashion than Tekken or VF.
Fighting Vipers doesn't seem to have any love here, but that's OK. It's really only good for a quick fix.
Sega released another fighter that's actually really good but nobody knows about it. Last Bronx. Combined the predictable controls of VF with weapon combat ala Soul Edge. Soul Edge was flashier, but Last Bronx was tighter.
