Just finished Batman R.I.P as I try to get all caught up on Morrison's Batman run. Here's my thoughts on his run so far. On the one hand, I appreciate a lot of the changes that his run brought to the Batman universe, most notably the new Batman and Robin that came from from this run(Dick Grayon and Damian). I also really enjoyed what he did with Tim Drake and Talia throughout this story leading up to the end of Batman R.I.P. Those characters were really well used.

On the other hand though, I really hate Morrison's style of writing. Oftentimes I found his run on Batman to just be convoluted, pretentious, drawn out, incoherent, and just plain crazy. It's like the guy writes while he's on an acid trip or something. Half the time, nothing makes sense at all, and just like with Jeph Loeb's Hush storyline, Morrison seems to take took long to bring a story to a resolution. There's a lot of stuff too that seems thrown in just to show us how smart he is, to the detriment of the story. References to lots of earlier things in Batman lore that is just not necessary to the story.

Personally, I'll take Scott Snyder over Morrison any day of the week. I've really enjoyed his work on Detective Comics, Gates of Gotham, the current Court of Owls storyline in Batman, and his work on Swamp Thing as well. Snyder's writing is easier to follow than Morrison, but no less rewarding. He also shows a level of restraint with his writing that Morrison doesn't have. Morrison just seems like he's going to throw every damn crazy, ridiculous thing he can into a story whether it's necessary or not. Someone needs to explain to him that less is more. I would compare Morrison to Hideo Kojima with his over the top, crazy, convoluted storytelling.

Major DC character to come out of the closet. Oh, I'm sure this has nothing to do with recent political events. The writers are doing this entirely out of what they feel is this superhero's best interests, and nothing else.

I'm guessing it won't be Batman. DC wouldn't want to do anything that might potentially hurt The Dark Knight Rises.

I doubt it will be a flagship character.

Actually, I heard the announcement on the morning radio show I listen to on the way to work. And they said that it WILL be a major flagship DC character. In a way, it has to be to make any real impact, they've already done this bit with Batwoman.

They also said on the talk show that the current speculation is that it will be Batman. But then that begs the question: How did Damian Wayne come about then?

Maybe it's Superman or Wonder Woman, then. Or maybe it is Batman, and DC is about to do something really stupid.

It being Batman or any other of the larger flagship characters would be suicide. Now, I believe it would create more media and be slightly more successful to do it with a female character, though I doubt that is the case.

Personally, I see no need to do it. It's not going to make any supporters of gay rights up and start reading comic books. Well, I guess it could, but I very much doubt it.

Just not a great idea.

A lesser female character has already been done, though, like I pointed out: Batwoman. Why would they do the same exact thing twice?

Wooops, misread what you wrote.

I still don't think its a good idea from a monetary standpoint, and, depending on the character, it could lose a lot of interest in the characters.

It'd be smarter to introduce a new character for this, me thinks.

For sure. I'm pretty sure all the flagship DC characters already have longstanding relationships with the opposite sex, so it would mess with their history. Superman-Lois Lane, Batman-Talia Al Ghul, Wonder Woman-Steve Trevor, Green Lantern-Carol Ferris, Flash-Iris West, and Aquaman-Mera.

It as been stated that this character is not one that has already been introduced into the New 52.
Many are speculating Allan Scott, Shazam (Billy Bastion), Wally West, and Kyle Rayner.

Here is an article that has good reason, proof, that it may be the former Captain Marvel now know as Shazam!
