Breetai. I'm not sure why you say you don't doubt my story...what would be in doubt?

You keep saying you can't walk into a store and buy a care4data sapphire. I hate to state the obvious, but, "no shit." It's not an official product and can't legally be sold! "Most" reputable people won't sell a bootleg.

I'm not sure how you can say ebay doesn't cater to the JP game buyer - there are not dozens, but hundreds of JP shops that sell only JP import games.

I'm also not sure why Super Tempo and Psychic Killer are in the discussion? ninja asked about (3) other titles, so I commented on those (3) titles.

Rare isn't numbers by your last argument, it's supply and demand. What's rarer, Lost Golem, PDS, MKR, Hyper or care4data Sapphire? Lost Golem, not close. Yet, the demand is not nearly as high, so the argument that Sapphire care4data may not seem as rare because it doesn't have the demand, doesn't hold weight.

I mean, if I get a factory to press 100 copies of game X, does that all of a sudden be super rare, even if there isn't a ton of demand and it obviously isn't an official product? Of course not. I can't believe i'm wasting time on this again.

Nothing. I was just trying to say there I had no doubts about it. I guess for other readers who might think your story seems unlikely.

Most are "shops" that overprice their games to the foreign buyer. You can buy from Japanese sources (well, none-take advantage of the westerner sources) and save money even after you've paid the middleman fee. eBay is, without a doubt, a way to get ripped off in lots of cases.

I was just making connections.

Haha, well technically that is rare.... although it a very pointless fashion.
I think Sapphire c4d, or any other sought after boot (using the term "sought after" somewhat loosely, although Sapphire boots are at least somewhat sought after), can be included in this. Why not? I get the impression that you think they should not be. I saw it's a pretty grey area, but Sapphire is on the side that it counts... if nothing else, because of the interesting and somewhat mysterious history behind it.

Why do you say it's "wasting time"? We have different perspectives on this. I find the discussion interesting.

I would agree that this would give a clear answer. I'll post one on a Japanese forum maybe. :)

Haha, you DID ask. Awesome!

In Japan, in my half decade of experience, Super Tempo is more rare that a lot of the others. I have no idea of its print run. I never ONCE saw it in any popular retro game shop (Akihabara shops, etc.). I only saw 5 copies at the same time in a mom&pop shop. One was on display and FULL of dust, and the other 4 were behind that counter and shown to me when I asked (in Korean... haha) if they had more. Where did you get it? Did I sell you a copy?

Would you say Yamatoku is an exception to that 'overpriced' rule?...

Or do I just think they're cheap because I don't know any better?...

No idea. I just looked at their game site and they have nothing. All of their eBay stuff is auction, which means that the foreign (non-JP) buys dictate the prices. Maybe once they have games on their website at set prices, I would know.

I really don't know a lot about JP game export sites, as I've never really needed to use them. I know the low-high price range of a lot of games in Japan and I would just go on that, allowing for higher prices for some profit margin. Many services take a LOT of profit margin, but it depends on demand. For Sega stuff, Yakumo has the stuff at his site priced very fair I think. It's about how I would price things; cheaper than most others, but still enough to make a profit (yes, this IS definitely possible). Risingstuff was also good for this. I suspect this is because this is/was also a hobby for these guys. They were not trying to make it their main source of income. They sell/sold games for the enjoyment of it, I think. Apparently this Rancor guy is also good?

That's exactly what I use them for. Sega games, Dreamcast in particular. Just to give you an idea, these are the prices for the last Yamatoku auctions I won:

Black Matrix AD US $8,63
Happy Lesson First Lesson US $4,28
My Merry May US $5,51
Haru Ame Youbi US $5,51
The Bonds of Eternity Again US $4,27
Canary US $6,01
The Virgin on Megiddo US $5,51

Prices are before shipping, but shipping is always very reasonable. All games in mint condition and with spine cards...

I know, they are auctions, so the buyers decide the price. But they always have a shitload of games up, and the auctions always start very low...

Another one is hit-japan. Not always the cheapest, but they always include the 'make an offer' option. Most of the time I'm able to shave off a whopping 40 percent off the BIN price. They also offer combined shipping. Not as good / cheap as Yamatoku, but a fair runner-up...

Hey, remember when this thread was about games you had that are rare, or you were under the delusion they were rare because they go for riduculous prices on ebay for no good reason? Anyway, since last time, here are 3 that tie on the DP guide.

Power Strike - US - SMS
Harmful Park - J - PS1
Spriggan Mark 2 - J - PCE CD
