I still don't like the idea of repros of any retail game.
Oh I completely agree with you. I don't like it either. Not at all. In fact, I don't like the use of "donor carts" at all anymore.

Is that why you don't do repros anymore?

Yeah, that's most of the reason.

What I still do is "patch" Super Famicom carts. Nothing that's been officially released though. For example, I've had many people ask me if I would do Mother 2, and I wont. Most commonly people will send me stuff like FF5, Seiken Densetsu 3 and Tenchi Sozo (Terranigma) to put their respected translation on, so no donor carts. Some people still claim "you're cannibalizing carts!" but it's not true. I professionally remove the mask ROMs (chip that contains the game data) so that they can always be replaced, fully restoring the cart to the way it was. The mask ROMs get sent back with the carts. In the event of bit rot, one could always rewrite the flash memory, or simply just reinstall the original mask ROM.

Anyways, this is all I do these days in the world of "repros," and I will only do it for established Racketeers.
