Try forking over these two games. Make a repo disc and no one would care. I wouldn't even mind if all snes carts were flooded with repo because it wouldn't be that hard to find or buy. Lately its harder to find Sega Genesis games, Saturn, dreamcast.final fight cd wrote:i couldn't agree anymore. a repro shouldn't be made because a)you are too poor to buy the original or B)you are too cheap to buy the original. there are plenty of other ways to play the game if you don't want to dish out the money.AppleQueso wrote:NO.
Potential for abuse is through the roof. Fake earthbound carts have popped up on ebay before, landing in the hands of unsuspecting buyers. Repros of unreleased games? Okay. Rom hacks? Okay. English translations of games that were never released here? Okay. Games that actually were released retail? Noooooooooo.
If you want to play it THAT bad, just emulate it or use a flash cart.
with the high demand, you could buy the game and sell it for pretty much what you bought it for.

you are right. nobody would care about making repros of snatcher or PDS or any disc based game for that matter because it wouldn't be possible to make a disc identical to the retail version. nobody is going to be able to pass off a cd-r copy of snatcher for 200+ dollars.benderx wrote:Try forking over these two games. The price has been rising fast, so you could even make a profit by hanging onto it for even two playthroughs. It hasn't even been a year since I bought mine for $100, and now eBay's cheapest is $200, while Amazon's is $170.final fight cd wrote:i couldn't agree anymore. a repro shouldn't be made because a)you are too poor to buy the original or B)you are too cheap to buy the original. there are plenty of other ways to play the game if you don't want to dish out the money.AppleQueso wrote:NO.

I beg to differ, Sapphire on the PCengine CD has some fakes that are factory pressed and look almost identical to the retail release. Sadly, these fakes are sold as legit and often for alot of money - mostly by people who dont know they are fake.final fight cd wrote:you are right. nobody would care about making repros of snatcher or PDS or any disc based game for that matter because it wouldn't be possible to make a disc identical to the retail version. nobody is going to be able to pass off a cd-r copy of snatcher for 200+ dollars.

Re: Earthbound Reproduction Carts: Should they be created?
Yep,
I'm gonna go all controversial and say i like the idea of repro's , especially if they were official (i know, retarded statement that would never happen.)
But i just wanna own and play the games on the system they were intended to be played on,and the same systems i love. I really dont understand the whole collector ethic of "LOLZ THIS GAME IS RARE I PAID LOTS OF MONEY FOR IT NOT GONNA PLAY IT IMMA STICK IT ON MA SHELF"
Owning a piece of history is cool, but being elitist about piracy or remasters by suggesting only those who can afford to pay sky high amounts should be allowed to enjoy classic video games is not.
I like reprints, and i also like interdependent releases.. In fact i like anything that stops a console i love becoming redundant.
Oh, and i cant do flash carts because i have the attention span of a goldfish and end up changing the game every 2 minutes .
But that's just me and my stupid opinions, I'm sure there's some hoarders reading and raging right now.
Come on at me bro's. =P

Re: Earthbound Reproduction Carts: Should they be created?
I'm actually changing my stance for a few reasons.
A) The game isn't as expensive as I thought. Ebay completed auction listings hover around $130-150.
B) The money spent towards getting a rom-swapped Mother 2 cart could just be put towards buying the legit release.
C) It's always better to own the real thing.
Now in the future if a cart costs $400+ ...yeah, I can see reproductions being made as a viable alternative.

It isn't really all that expensive. Just don't by two or three new game releases and you'll have enough dough for an EB cart.MotleyKhon wrote:Owning a piece of history is cool, but being elitist about piracy or remasters by suggesting only those who can afford to pay sky high amounts should be allowed to enjoy classic video games is not.

Re: Earthbound Reproduction Carts: Should they be created?
As an aside, I've never understood the point of NWC repro carts. Three hobbled games on short timers. It's the one kind of cart where putting a real one in a coffin and hanging it on the wall seems the most sensible thing to do since playing the normal carts is preferable.

just out of curiosity, what does sapphire usually sell for? i can't image actually making factory pressed discs is cheap.fastbilly1 wrote:I beg to differ, Sapphire on the PCengine CD has some fakes that are factory pressed and look almost identical to the retail release. An "official reproduction" is what we'd call a reprint. That's kinda totally different from a repro and I'd be all behind it.MotleyKhon wrote:Yep,

I don't know if you realize this, but repros aren't made to last. A repro made now will likely not even work 5-10 years from now.
I really could care less if I own some games that go down in value. In fact, I'd LOVE for a lot of the rare and valuable titles out there to go down in value, makes them much easier to obtain if I ever lose them.
I simply do not want to see fake Earthbound carts making their way into the wild or onto ebay and being sold as the real thing. I don't want to see people accidentally ending up with bootlegs.
You won't find many 'hoarders' here, nobody complains about the fact that the Shin Megami Tensei games on Ps2 got reprints recently.
