You can be inexperienced and juvenile when it comes women&sex and even down right uninterested with out being a misogynist. Traditionally the "tereotypical nerd" has been a male who has no experience with women besides teachers, relatives, the online world and so on, and after playing and chatting with many 25+ and 30+ nerds for years, I concur with the notion. That doesnt mean that they all hate women. Some people want to be alone and some feel that it's easier to be alone than to try change themselves in order to find a girlfriend/wife.
When it comes to user avatars, I dont think that pictures of scantily glad women are necessarily the same thing as hating on women, that's absurd. Plenty of classical art is based around the "adoration of the female body", paintings and sculptures of naked woman and that sort of thing. I dont see how that is any different, maybe you can argue that they show a more refined taste or that the angle is less vulgar and demeaning and so on, but in my eyes it's essentially the same thing. There are same kind of pictures of half naked sweaty muscular males that are meant for women. I doubt they are forcing any of those models to pose like that.
By the way, I don't see why some men are so keen on telling every one how they "respect women". You mean to tell me that you respect 50% of the human population, all women, irrelevant of their behavior and personal achievements? Just because they are women? That seems very sexist to me.
