In this thread, an apparently "legendary" sealed game collector has a large quantity of sealed games, though he won't disclose what they are.
Why? Because knowing how many of these are still sealed will drive down the value of them and thus hurt his ability to get a decent chunk for them.
For those of us w/mild skills at seeing the bottom line, it basically reads like this:
"I have games, that are sealed, they aren't great, but they are sealed. I can't tell you what they are, because then you won't be able to sell them for much, as the number of known sealed games will really kill their value, for you, as the reseller. So, because I am a "legend", you should act like this is a good thing, and you should get in line at this opportunity.
You, the buyer, can then dump these off slowly on ebay and forums, maybe 1 every 2-3 months, and you can reap a healthy profit. Don't worry about the fact that i'm keeping this a secret from everyone so we can collectively pillage their wallets. Keep in mind, i'm a "legend", seriously, google me."
I got a real kick out of the thread at post 69, when another legend in his own mind, "Rarebucky" said he's interested. For those who don't know, this is the guy who gets games sealed in plastic shells for all eternity and then sells at massive mark up as sealed/graded on ebay. That in itself is what it is. But, what's really funny, is he uses an account "Rarelucky" to buy un-entombed, but sealed games off ebay and forums, encases them, and resells at huge markup. And both of these gentlemans are apparently legends and good for the hobby.

I saw that thread.
What I don't like the most is what is said in the very first post:
Of course, people pm'd him anyway.

Haha yup. Sealed game collecting just rubs me the wrong way.AppleQueso wrote:stuff like this really keeps me away from the hardcore collecting game
Anyway, that thread is indeed lame. I'm glad Racketboy is the only gaming site I ever post on, that type of stuff doesn't seem to fly here.

So basically this: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 22&t=37455 only worse.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

^Exactly.
And as you see in that thread, the community pulled a, "hey, c'mon on now, what do you have and what do you want for it?" response.
The most surprising thing is the number of NA members w/high post counts who did the Walmartian-Sheep-I'm-in-line thing.

Okay, I read the whole thread... Can't believe the people fawning all over that guy.
And is revealing the names of these titles really going to "devalue" them?

Well, if he's trying to sell one hundred sealed copies of Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace for PS1, then yes. Nobody will be lining up for that.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Okay, I read the whole thread... Can't believe the people fawning all over that guy.

Re: Lamest thread i've seen in quite awhile
What is the original seller's reason for not slowly selling these himself - especially with HEALTHY profit to be made.
Re: Lamest thread i've seen in quite awhile
I have no moral qualm with the OP, but I do wonder how this makes sense. The instant a potential buyer knows the quantity of the titles for sale, the value will drop. Hell, he could implicitly (or explicitly, if he has balls) blackmail the seller into giving him a lower price with the mere fact that he now knows the details and could announce it to the public.
Basically, why didn't the seller just do what he is proposing someone else do: slowly sell the titles off on Ebay or hold them for the future.
