Avengers 2 Speculation Thread ***SPOILERS***

So those of us that saw the Avengers movie know that a sequel is already planned. And the current success of The Avengers at the box-office pretty much ensures that sequel of being made.

Those that are avoiding spoilers to the current film, READ NO MORE!!! SPOILERS BE AHEAD!!!


So we know that Thanos will be the major villain in the next movie. What plot do you think they're gonna with? One already established in the comics, or a new one? And if it from an established story, which one? When he tried to snuff out the stars with the Soul Gems? When used the Cosmic Cube to become one with the entire universe? The Infinity Gauntlet affair?

Will we see other cosmic characters like Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, Adam Warlock, or (hopefully) Pip the Troll?

Will he enlist the aid of other villains? Gamora, Magus, and Mephisto have been allies of Thanos before.

Man, just thought of Thanos as the villain has me so excited! All the possibilities of the oh-so awesome cosmic corner of the Marvel Universe, brought to the big screen!

I say change the thread to MARVEL MOVIE Speculation thread.

Casting has been finalized for the next few Marvel movies a year ago, and THOR 2, CAP 2, and IRON MAN 3 are shooting as early as June (which means they are already have been shooting).

That said, if Avengers breaks the big five double oh (domestic) Avengers 2 could see the light of day as early as 2015-ish.

They have to mediate the nerdom!. Marvel may have already shown off their first tier characters. But lets hope their B-list heroes can live up to it.

Its awesome to have nice/ cool cameos, but most everyone didn't know it was thanos at the end.

Every normal non-fan knows who the avengers are. But they dont know who the hell the guardians of the galaxy are. Let alone other universe characters.

mostly marvel movies have kept to earth. But adding thanos opens up the marvel world ten fold.

Not that green lantern was a bad movie, but if marvel isnt careful with their mythology, they may have a green lantern movie with marvel characters.

But their formula of having an origin movie leading up to a bigger movie was a smart idea.

Lets hope that if their future movies cant be made live action, Pixar's gonna do it right.

I guess since Sony has the rights to Spiderman and X-Men, there's no chance of them showing up in Avengers 2?

I'm unfortunately not hugely familiar with Thanos' storylines, but from what I've surmised from a bit of wikipedia-ing and reading various comic book related sites, it looks pretty likely that it will be the infinity gauntlet. The major bit that people point to is the gem in Loki's staff in the Avengers, that it's the mind gem (is that right?), one of the gems that go in the gauntlet.

Could be way off though. Either way, I'm stoked.

Also: Avengers 2, more shawarma?

I guess since Sony has the rights to Spiderman and X-Men, there's no chance of them showing up in Avengers 2?

Sony owns the film rights to Spider-Man and Ghost Rider.

Fox owns the film rights to the X-Men and most Marvel mutants, Daredevil and the Fantastic Four (incuding Dr. Doom).

None of these characters will be in Avengers or any other Marvel movies for a long time. Especially since the Avengers did so well it doesn't look like the excitement and fervor for comic book movies has waned at all over the past decade despite several terrible movies. The studios are going to have a stranglehold on those characters for quite a while.

Universal did own the film rights to the Hulk but the first movie (the Ang Lee one) was such a failure that they had no interest in keeping them so they sold them back to Marvel. I believe Marvel/Disney has also re-acquired the rights to Blade and The Punisher. I'd love to see the Punisher in Captain America 2 or something.

Okay so leading up there was all this speculation as to who the army was composed of. It ended up being. . . uh, those sorta hard to make out skeleton type dudes who were named maybe once. So was it just something created for the movie, or were they based on something from the comics?

Also, isn't RDJ signed on only as far as Iron Man 3? Meaning Avengers 2, if he agrees to do it (probably) could end up his last marvel movie.

Anyway, I'm wondering what they'll do differently, since it seems logical to just have Thanos show up with another army and attack earth, which would be redundant.

I'm personally hoping to see a more global vibe with it. After all their singular movies, which took place in a variety of locations (Iron Man, california/Thor, new mexico/Captain America, all over) it was sort of dissapointing to see them end up duking it out in New York like every other comic book movie.

The "skeleton type dudes" looked exactly like Beta Ray Bill, but with a Thanos-esque crown.

RDJ will milk the Marvel mammary until bone dry.

Thanos will most likely show up in Thor 2 "Lighting Strikes Twice" to retrieve what is to be believed the Mind Gem. Then again, just calculated speculation.
