Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

WTF is with the prices of wavebirds

Post by miked »

I decided to look up the prices of wavebird wireless cube controllers on ebay and amazon and they go for a constant 30 used. I can walk in to gamestop and get one for 18 without the price of shipping! Any idea what makes these morons pay this much for them as they seem to be selling......

supply and demand, and the fact they dont make them anymore combined with the fact you can use them on the wii.

watch them go for $50-$70 by this holiday.

Well, maybe it is possible that you have them at your Gamestop, but they are hard to find at most others. If this is the case, then why not buy a few and flip them on eBay and make some money from some of these "morons" who don't happen to live near your Gamestop.

$30 isn't that bad -- that was what I paid for them new.
$18 is a steal in my book.

lol yeah maybe "morons" was a little harsh, but I cant see paying $30 for a used controller with no battery cover when the system itself goes for the same price if not less. 8 months ago my walmart was still selling them new though, so its not like they have been discontinued all that long. I honestly think the part of the country I live in is by far the worst for gaming. I cant think of a time Ive been in gamestop when they didnt have at least 2 wavebirds. I even got a gameboy player for 20

With no battery cover? i'd pass on those.
I wouldn't pay $30 unless they were in good condition.
When with Wii was super hot, they were going for like $40 in some places.

There's a modder out there who will mod your Wii to have the Wavebird reciever installed somewhere in your Wii case, so you don't have to have a huge bulky item sticking out of your Wii. I thougt about doing it, but I'd have to save up. They don't provide the Wavebirds or recievers in their $85 installation price.

I never really liked the wavebird, but whenever I see them in stores in good condition I pick them up. Not so much to make money myself, but I know enough people looking for them and they are helping me round out my steel battalion collection...

Well I went and picked up 2 of the three they had, one grey and one plantinum. The third one looked like it had been chewed up by a dog or something and was missing the rubber on both sticks, so I left that one. I guess gamestop has no standards if they take crap like that.
