As promised, here's some pics of my watches.

This is the one I wear most of the time (if I wear a watch) - a Seiko Chronograph:



I also have this pocket watch, which belonged to my great-grandfather. I wind it twice a year or so and it still works like a charm:

Gorgeous watches dsh! The Seiko is a bit flashy for my tastes, with the gold accents and all, but I dig the chronograph. Something that's also been bothering me a bit about the Seikos is their ubiquity... It does follow that such a reliable and affordable company has pretty widespread market penetration (along with Citizen) but I keep finding myself leaning more towards Russian designs simply for their uniqueness. I'm currently loving the yellow accents and especially the hands on this Vostok-Europe.

Apparently Bill Murray wore a Vostok diver in The Life Aquatic... I'm trying to track down the exact model.

Just to make everyone feel better about their watches and generally lower property values in this thread, here are my cheapo ones, all of which are out of commission.

#1 "American Pop" - My favorite, but swallowed a bit of water when accidentally washed. No longer works.
#2 "Swiss Army" - Stepped on barefoot (but in shorts pocket) and my heel broke the crystal. Still works, but can't use it with no window.
#3 AWOL - Likely chewed up by mowers along the interstate when I apparently missed my pocket while walking to work.
#4 "Body Gear" - Must have a damaged gear as it will randomly stop, but go again if you thump it lightly.

an old girl friend gave me this one...late 80's. very cool imho. but I don't wear it nowadays. ya know with smartphones and all...
these days I just use my phone for the time. and really if you like to save money buying a watch is like buying pure jewelry i.e. completely pointless aside from they look pretty.

Eh, phones aren't waterproof and they aren't hands free to look at the time. So if you're in the rain, riding a bike, hanging off the side of a cliff, or underwater, a water and sweat proof timepiece that's firmly attached to your wrist is handy.

Not to mention bending in half or struggling to pull your phone out of your pocket makes you look slightly idiotic, and there's not really any way around that. The fact that it's a silly habit that's been integrated into our culture doesn't really make it better.
