Sooo, back to marriage. Does the U.S. or its States have any right to govern marriage at all, given that the government is unable to make law any kind of morality?

It shouldn't have any right, and constitutionally, it doesn't. But, here we are. :?

I don't think states should be able to deny interracial couples the same rights and privileges as other couples. Up until the 1950's almost every state still had laws restricting certain interracial marriage. As late as 1967 we still had laws restricting them in 16 states (link). It finally took the federal government to make it so a black person and white person could be wed anywhere in the United States.

I feel the same way about gay couples.

I am almost always against Federal Government overreach, but in this case I think they have not gone far enough. The majority should not be running around like a mob restricting the lives of a minority. Having a free society means you have to accept some ideas you don't like. There should not be this war on alternate lifestyles. The government's main role should be to protect and enforce rights. I believe marriage is a civil right. They are not doing their job.

And it should be.

Even though I started this thread, I think (think) I'm done. I keep saying this is about civil rights, not just about gay marriage but it always comes back to hetero vs homo (Marvel vs. Capcom is wayyy more fun).

What is done is done (and it wasn't that much of a surprise). We can still discuss gun control.

While it technically is about civil rights, that's just an unfortunate casualty of the gay marriage debate. That's why it keeps coming back to it.

1) If abortion is murder, shouldn't cuming and having a period also be murder? Cause then girls kill 12 kids a year, and I personally kill what amounts to the population of the earth every 2-3 weeks.

Oh but yeah, I have sex for recreation so I'll burn in hell anyway. Mind you even if you just had sex for reproducing you'd still kill million of babies while you are doing it.

(and yes it's a stupid point, I am making a joke)

2) I really love how the people who are "pro-life" are also 99% the people who are against universal healthcare and social benefits. So all life is sacred till it's born, afterwards it might as well roll over and die for all we care?

The issue is over fertilized eggs, as far as I know.

Don't forget that pro-lifers are also the first to complain about "welfare queens" with too many children.

I'm not a very religious guy but I heard something I coulda sworn that was from Christianity: treat others how you wish to be treated.
If that's right, I would presume that even a by-the-book Christian, thinking any homosexual isn't "right" in their book, but at least they wouldn't treat them in the way that so many people seem to do. Isn't God supposed to sort us out in the end anyways, not humans...
We're really "fighting" about such asinine things like gay marriage when instead we should be working to better humanity and improve living standards for all of us, especially those who have so little.
