Randomly playing Dimahoo when I can. I can tell you that I'll be playing Akai Katana next Tuesday

I still can't beat that game, even with the 99 lives.sabrage wrote:Started up Nemesis for Game Boy (thanks Noise.) Man that laser noise is annoying. Currently trying to figure out that second level; those enemies that spawn right on top of you are a total bitch. Luckily I can just set it to 99 lives and zone out...

Sounds about right... I keep ragequitting on level 2. That section before the second boss is just insane.BoneSnapDeez wrote:I still can't beat that game, even with the 99 lives.sabrage wrote:Started up Nemesis for Game Boy (thanks Noise.) Been actually getting a bit tired of Dimahoo at this point, so I return back to the basics.
Forgot how good I was at Gaplus (Galaga 3). The Challenging Stages are the best by far.
Also have been doing Super Space Invaders 91 (also known as Majestic Twelve).

Just got Ultimate Shooting Collection for Wii for $2.99 at GS. I've mostly been playing Karous. It's pretty neat; haven't really got the hang of the scoring yet, just wondering if anyone else had info on this?

Sweet, I'll have to see if my Gamestop actually has a CIB copy when I'm in town tomorrow.foxhound1022 wrote:Ultimate Shooting Collection for Wii for $2.99 at GS
Re: What shmup are you playing now?
Tried out two new NES shmups today, courtesy of Mechblue.
Gun Smoke: I want to like this game. The weapon buying/swapping system is mildly interesting, the enemies are ruthless and plentiful, and the donkey always makes me laugh... But the levels in this game are ridiculously long. Luckily there's no R-Type "send you back to the beginning" nonsense and extra lives seem plentiful, but I honestly get bored with the enemy and environment variety long before I reach the end boss. I got a game over on the third boss.
Zanac: This is the polar opposite of Gun Smoke. Levels are fast, frenetic and always throwing new enemies at you. I'll have to get a handle on the rank system, though.... I keep getting dominated because I get a little too greedy and the enemies start blocking out the screen. Any tips? Also, what's the purpose of the "Continue" function in this game? Is there a battery-backed save?
I'm really impressed by the fact that neither of these games has shown any slowdown yet, considering the ridiculous amount of enemies they throw at you.

Compile were excellent programmers, the amount of action they could get on screen in Zanac with no slowdown was definitely impressive!

...speaking of Compile I've been playing Space Megaforce (Super Aleste) a bit these past couple days. It's great. Just a really enjoyable super fun game. A nice change of pace from edge of your seat thrills but with enough to keep you on yr toes. Settle into your couch with the SNES pad and blast away. Awesome.

Playing some Pixel Junk for a change of pace from Dimahoo.
Surprisingly fun little game. Scoring isn't terrible tough to grasp, which is good sometimes, and the graphics are pretty neat and pleasant. I enjoy the way you can play it stage by stage, or play through them all in a row - and the scoreboards are great, really liking that.
I was pleasantly surprised by the level 1-4 boss-battle-only, pretty cool for $5.
I haven't messed around w/all the stages yet, but I anticipate the levels around 2-3 and beyond getting more difficult, which is good, lots to offer here.
