I would, but so far you guys have been playing some obscure shit I don't even have.
Dimahoo doesn't have a console port, corrrect? Oh, well; looks like I gotta get crackin' on some acquisitions.

Dimahoo, yeah, never ported. And a shame. It's amazing. Battle Bakraid, Armed Police Batrider, and Dimahoo - all stand alone gems, and never ported. Madness.

Thanks for the tips, I had been using nothing but the plasma gun because it "spreads" (like the gun in Contra). Guess I should experiment with weapons a bit more.ExedExes wrote:Great game. I've done many a completion on that, it's a good thing cuz you cant continue, but you do get a ton of extra lives.BoneSnapDeez wrote:FIREPOWER 2000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lost all my lives at the second boss, but I think I got it's pattern down. Will try again this weekend.
Remember these things.
1) Stage 1, after you get dropped off, move immediately to the right to get an item box loaded with extra Bullet power which is helpful.
2) At the middle of at least the first 3 (maybe 4) stages, if there is an item box right in the middle of the screen and a large ship comes down to take it away, LET IT. If you destroy the ship after it takes the box, you get *more* power ups from that box.
3) For the stage 2 boss, LASER is your friend. Stay a far distance back and not directly underneath the guns when they shoot. It is much easier with the Jeep. If you die a few times, remember the X-missles make good backups.
I only use the jeep. I haven't been able to find any advantage to using the helicopter.
Re: What shmup are you playing now?
I like the Plasma once it gets up to level 5. It has a great range and as long as I can keep it it's my go to weapon. Laser is very useful on bosses but really all the weapons are pretty good. The only good thing about the heli really is that it's faster and it's not limited by ground obstacles, which means, um, maybe nothingBoneSnapDeez wrote:Thanks for the tips, I had been using nothing but the plasma gun because it "spreads" (like the gun in Contra). Let me know how you are progressing. Stages 3 & 4 will feature much different elements.
Also remember to keep sweeping left and right if you can, especially on Stage 2. You might just find an extra power-up box or bubble shield that you didn't know was there.

I've been playing the hell out of Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth on the N64. Maybe it's simply because it's the only shmup that was released in the U.S. on the N64... but I'm absolutely loving it.

I'm playing Star Force on NES. Does anyone know if it ends? Does this game ever end?
Edit - I looked it up and it really doesn't end! There are 120 levels, but the counter stops at 89 for some reason. If you beat level 120, the game will start over. Looks like I'll never win.
Gradius III on SNES is going better.

i haven't picked that game up in a while but I do remember clearing it and finding it enjoyable. it's just a shame you can't use the D-pad...

Well, according to GameFAQs, there's Dezaemon 3D and Bangai-O only released in Japan.EllertMichael wrote:SS:VE is the only N64 shmup I know of. were there any others released in Japan?MC Rex Rexler wrote:I've been playing the hell out of Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth on the N64. Oh, but you can! The secret is... going to the options menu.EllertMichael wrote:it's just a shame you can't use the D-pad...
That's another thing I love about this game... I always get a kick out of utilizing the seldom used N64 d-pad.
Re: What shmup are you playing now?
Started up Nemesis for Game Boy (thanks Noise.) Man that laser noise is annoying. Currently trying to figure out that second level; those enemies that spawn right on top of you are a total bitch. Luckily I can just set it to 99 lives and zone out...
