Prototype NES cart?

Post by jay_red »

Just came across this CL ad and it seemed rather interesting, if what his is selling is legit. He claims a prototype Ninja Gaiden cart, with the only indication on the cart being "Ninja" sharpied onto the front. Not really my thing but thought you guys might find it interesting.

If you were worried, the PCB in the Ninja Gaiden you sold me a few months ago looks nothing like that. :P

Weird - I never knew of Nintendo carts that have boards filling the cart like that.

I saw it on NA as well. Nobody is screaming "fake" and I assume the community is full of experts on this type of stuff. I've also never seen a PCB filling up an NES cart shell like that before.
What a maneuver!

Yeah, which makes sense when you remember that pretty much every NES cart originally started life as a Famicom cart, which are pretty small.

Its possible, it looks similar to other EPROM prototype boards I've seen. If you pull that tape off and expose the rom chips to high light I believe you erase the whole thing.

Isn't that a pretty normal price for a prototype?

If not higher. The value depends on the public interest of the game and if the prototype has been dumped or is a one-of-a-kind deal. I have no doubt in my mind that the price would double, triple, even quadruple if it was for example, an unknown, previously undumped Super Mario Bros. 3 prototype.
