Ticked: Traffic check point about 800 yards away from my house.

Officer: License, registration and proof of insurance.

Me: Here you go.

Officer: One second. *comes back* Is everything on here correct?

Me: My license has my old address on it. Other than that, all clear.

Officer: Why haven't you obtained a new ID?

Me: My information with the dmv is up to date, and I didn't realize a new ID was necessary.

Officer: I see. Hmm. Stay put.

Me: *stays put*

Officer: Okay sir, have a good day. But one more question, have you had anything to drink today?

Me: *my brain immediately tells me he already thinks I have been drinking. Why else ask, especially when it was barely afternoon? I did drink last night, but not to excess...Maybe I still have a little bit of scotch breath.*

Nuh-uh.

Officer: You haven't had a single drink then today?

Me: Nuh-uh.

Officer: I'd like for you to step out of your vehicle (which was pronounced "Vee-Hickle).

Me: Nuh-uh.

Officer: I'm going to ask you again to step out of your vehicle.

Me: Nuh-uh.

Officer: *grabs walkie talkie* "inaudible" blah blah blah, failure to comply, blah blah blah.

Officer 2 steps in.

Officer 2: What seems to be the problem?

Me: *shrugs*

Officer 2 to Officer 1: *inaudible conversation that reminds me of a manager talking to his ace pitcher in the bottom of the 8th*

Officer 2: Sir, you do realize if you fail a sobriety test you will be placed under arrest, and refusing a field sobriety test gives us probable cause to place you under confinement until a test is taken at the police station?

Me: Uh-huh.

Officer 2: You understand that if you fail a urine or blood exam at the station your license will be revoked for one year from this date?

Me: No. But, okay.

Officer 2: With that being explained, we would like you to step out of your car.

Me: Nuh-uh.

Officer 2: You're not being compliant.

Me: I just want to go to the store, buy some fresh mozzarella and get back home. *smiles from ear to ear* I'm making PIZZA tonight!

Officer 2 has another meeting with Officer 1, who has someone else pulled over. At this time people are actually turning around from the stop with the officers not even paying attention to the run offs.

Officer 2: Here's your license, registration, and insurance info. You are free to go, drive safely.

Full disclosure: I'm no saint, but I'm not a drunk driver. Plus no matter what I get a little nervous when I think I may get a ticket. Not for doing anything wrong, but I hate paying money to my city; our crime rate is off the charts, so is rape on campus, and all the money goes to the wrong places.

I don't think the cops did anything wrong, for all I know they were following protocol, and I have no issues from authority (usually I'm the authority...but not the sports authority, I'm over 6' and I can't dunk). I"ve been pulled over before, but Officer 1 was really a dick.

I remember 2 years ago we were at my in-laws in VT at some sort of holiday party. I had 2 beers over 4 hours. We left the house with my brother-in-law's family in a different car and came across a checkpoint. The cop asked if I had anything to drink. I said, "yes" and then he asked me to pull to the side. I had to do a breathalyzer. I was nervous because I was wondering what would happen if the thing malfunctioned and read higher than it should. Well, they did have difficulty with it which added to my nervousness. Finally, the thing warmed up and I had to blow into it. After a few minutes, they said I was free to go since the reading was 0%. Whew!

My brother-in-law didn't get pulled over because he told the police that no, he didn't have anything to drink.

That would have made my day. Truth is, my glove compartment was not locked.

I was wearing a Captain America Shield (not s.h.i.e.l.d, but his shield) t-shirt, jeans, adidas high tops and a Kinston Indians cap. I looked like today's Mr.Mom, scraggly beard and all. I wonder if I just looked like a drunk.

This is going to sound dumb to a lot of people...You know the popular question "If you could meet any three people, alive or dead..." . Rick "minus the Fred" Rubin may be one of mine. He may get third billing on my list, but the guy deserves the title of musical genius.

Frown: I've been finding absolutely everything on the planet to be unbearably annoying. Not sure if teen angst or if I'm genuinely annoyed by everything. It's been off and on for the last few weeks, mostly on.

Smile: Luke's story.

Don't feel bad, I've been dealing with some early adulthood angst.
