I think the biggest problem with ME 3 is the sense that they spent all this time building up the Reapers as this unstoppable force, yet never put any time into coming up with a believable way for the organic races to stop them. I mean they keep feeding us bullshit throughout the game about why the organics are able to withstand the Reaper invasion even as they're still going on and on about how ridiculously powerful they are. If the Reapers are really that badass, earth should have fallen in less than 24 hours. When Shepherd returned at the end of the game, earth should have been a smoking crater with the only signs of life being husks. Anderson and the resistance should have been completely wiped out.
When you also factor in the ridiculous (and unrealistic in my opinion) amounts of power and resources Cerberus had, Shepherd had no chance in freaking hell of winning this war and ensuring the survival of all organic life. So, having no believable way for Shepherd to win, we get this stupid deus ex machina known as the Crucible and that stupid VI kid and.....ugh
I kind of liked the Quarian and Tuchanka storylines though. Given that they were primarily dealing with ONE reaper threat on each planet, I can easily buy into Shepherd succeeding in defeating them. I mean, he killed Sovereign, he can handle one reaper. The fact that the reapers didn't put up more of an assault on Ranoch and Tuchanka also makes sense given that there was little in the way or resources or strategic value to those planets.
Now, when you think about what Shepherd had to do to beat the reapers on Tuchanka and Rannoch - a giant, mythical thrasher maw representing the power of the planet itself and a coordinated artillery strike from an ENTIRE FREAKING ARMADA - it makes the idea of earth and Palaven surviving as long as they did against MULTIPLE reapers even more ridiculous.
I'm too logical in my thinking, and stuff like that irritates me. ME 3's plot just doesn't make sense. I find myself really loving all the little things, like the Edi/Joker romance, numerous funny lines and other cool things in the game (like the Shepherd/Garrus shooting contest). These are all the awesome things that are in the game to distract you from realizing that the plot never makes sense. You keep wanting it too, and thinking that everything will sort itself out in the ending, but the ending just makes you want to cry really. It just proves that they never had this trilogy's story worked out at all. It's that same feeling you get watching the series' finale of Lost, you know they just never had a clue where they were going with the story.
