Hickory yes. I did make a vinegar based sauce, mine is very basic, but does the trick. Pretty much vinegar, ketchup, hot sauce, brown sugar, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes. I also use it on shredded cabbage with some olive oil to make bbq cole slaw because I really don't like the creamy stuff.
And I vote for dry rub ribs, haven't had those in a while and that sounds really good right now.
