Pork shoulder....yum.

Smoked pork shoulder...even yummier.

Using hickory chunks?

If you like vinegar based bbq sauces, I'd be happy to share a great recipe.

Hickory yes. I did make a vinegar based sauce, mine is very basic, but does the trick. Pretty much vinegar, ketchup, hot sauce, brown sugar, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes. I also use it on shredded cabbage with some olive oil to make bbq cole slaw because I really don't like the creamy stuff.

And I vote for dry rub ribs, haven't had those in a while and that sounds really good right now.

You may like this then (I usually half it):

Simple Slaw

8 cups shredded green cabbage
1/2 cup green bell pepper, thinly julienned
1/2 cup mincer sweet onion (or yellow onion)

3 TBSP sugar
2 and 1/2 TBSP hot water

3 TBSP White Vinegar (Heinz if you can get it)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp fresh ground pepper
1/2 tsp celery seed
1 garlic clove, minced

3 TBSP to 1/4 cup vegetable oil

In a large bowl, toss the first three ingredients together. In a small cup or bowl, mix the sugar and water until the sugar is dissolved, set aside.

Stir in the vinegar, spices, seasonings and garlic to the sugar mixture. Mix the Vinegar mixture to the bowl with the cabbage mix, and mix. Drizzle the oil while stirring. Cover, refrigerator, and mix every 15 minutes for an hour. Serve cold.

What's special about Heinz with regards to vinegar? I didn't think there was any sort of difference among most white vinegars.

Balsamic on the other hand, is a different story.

Vinegar is like wine in that it changes from brand to brand and type to type greatly. Luke probably is recommending the Heinz based on the known flavor quotient it provides.

I can taste a flavor to it that doesn't taste like something I would clean a window with. It's not worth hunting for, but I prefer it over any other white vinegar I've ever had.

Mm. Balsamic vinegar. Most of the stuff at grocery stores is garbage unless you cook it down, but a good balsamic vinegar glaze on vanilla ice cream is a treat from the heavens.

You bet.

It's my preference, and for some reason it tastes a lot better than just C2H402.

Heinz makes a superior Worcestershire sauce as well.

Frown: I've got a huge Calculus 1 final coming up next week. So far, I've put in 10 hours of studying, and I'm still only halfway done.

Smile: I recently found out that my World Cultures exam allows you to opt-out if you're content with your grade, which I am, and which I did! One less exam to study for!

Oh, wow, that sounds delicious. I'm definitely trying that one sometime. :D

The idea of having to look for any Heinz product is insane to me. In the state of PA, Heinz products practically flow through our veins.

On a related note, is there any other brand of ketchup that even comes close?

SMILE: R2-D2 New Hologram, bout time they fixed that shit.

On the subject of squeezable red sugar, I know a few DelMonte purists. I've never done a taste test, but I would hope I could point out Hunt's as being the worst.
